Mercy - The Road to Peace
As we get ready to begin another season of Lent, I feel the urgency to stress the incredible opportunity granted to
us to receive God’s mercy by embracing our Catholic Faith and taking advantage of the Sacraments. Through
the sacrifice of His Son on the cross, His Resurrection from the dead, and His glorious Ascension into Heaven,
God has opened the gates of heaven to all who profess faith in Christ Jesus. However, we as Catholics have
been given full access to this grace through the Sacraments that Jesus Christ established when He was here on
earth.
The Catholic Church is a human institution made up of sinful human beings that make mistakes and even do evil
actions. However, we believe that it is also a Divine Institution which Jesus Christ established for the salvation of
the world. In so far as the Catholic Church is made up of individual sinful men and women, the Church is
flawed, but as an institution created by God it will always be a place where people can find refuge from a sinful
world and where true peace can be established.
These last few years have been a trying time for our local Church as it goes through a time of trial and
purification. Some have left the Church feeling that it no longer has the credibility, necessary to lead them and
their families in the way of morals and faith. This makes me sad, and I regret the sins that we in the Church have
done that have led to this scandal, but I also profess my great faith in the power of Jesus working through this frail
institution. The Lord in His great love and mercy will not abandon what He, Himself has founded. He, Himself
proclaimed to Peter our first Pope, “You are Rock, and upon this rock I will build my Church and the gates of hell
shall not prevail against it.”
The gates of hell have been crashing against the gates of our Church these past years through the sins of past
priests and bishops, but the Lord is our true shepherd who will lead and guide us from this valley of tears. Let us
not give up on Christ’s Church, because He will never give up on us. Through our perseverance we will see
peace accomplished in our lives and the lives of our families.
Sincerely
Father Kurt Farrell
Facilities Update: Spring is around the corner and the season of renewal will see a few Parish projects begin. Tuck-pointing on the exterior brick work of the Parish is part of an ongoing maintenance and care plan needed routinely to extend the life of the buildings. Also, several heating and cooling units for the Church have reached the end of their service life and will be replaced before we all get a chance to be overheated this summer. Both projects are part of the Parish Building & Grounds and the Finance Committee’s commitment to maintain and improve our Parish facilities. The projects are partially funded by a combination of generous donations, remaining Rooted in Faith designated funds and monies exceeding the 2018 Catholic Ministry Appeal goal. The Parish still needs your support to replenish funds and reserves being used for these valuable projects. Any increase in weekly giving, gifts or other support are always appreciated.

Lent The Three Pillars of Lent - Prayer, Fasting, Almsgiving
During the Lenten Season, Catholics practice the above hallmarks of the Lenten Season as a way of putting one in
touch with the true nature of Lent. Our practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving can help us enter into this sacred
season as we walk with Jesus to Jerusalem as He enters into His passion and death. Come Easter Sunday, may we all
sing in unison - Alleluia! He is risen!

Fr Kurt Farrell and Fr. Robert Schneider will be traveling on a 12-day Holy Land Pilgrimage along
with individuals from St. Theodores and other diocesan parishes. As a parish family we pray for
their safe travels and ask the Holy Spirit to open their eyes and hearts to the transforming power of
being able to walk in the foot steps of Jesus, His mother, Mary and His disciples. May this
experience bring to life the teachings of the Gospel and deepen their faith in Christ!
Below is the list of individuals that are attending the Holy Land Pilgrimage. If you have any special
intentions that you would wish to send with Father, please give him your intention in writing or by
email. If you know any individual below, they too can take your intention with them!

I feel truly blessed to be a part of this family and am also thankful for my family.
