Dear Parents and Guardians,
Credit: P2T Professional
Thank you to each of you who took the leap of faith with us and attend the family picnic last week Friday. Despite
the thunder, lightning, very dark clouds and the odd drop or two, it turned out to be a magical, perfect evening.
The St Patrick’s family is a special group of people and I am so thankful to each one of
you and the trust you place in the school on a daily basis.
Thank you for also opening your hearts and wallets to support the CANSA Shavathon
event hosted at the picnic. A phenomenal amount of R3575.00 was raised. I would like
to make a special mention of Primary School teacher, Mrs M Ward, who donated 25
cm of her hair towards a wig for a cancer survivor. Thank you for the example you set.
Congratulations to the following pupils who were announced as the Primary School’s
head prefects for 2018: Head of Ethos – Chimkamara Ogu, Deputy Head Girl – Rethabile
Moyahi, Deputy Head Boy – Joshua Misdorp, Head Girl – Megan Hugo and Head Boy – Amogelang Phetlhu.
After much discussion with the SANDF, the Board of Governors has agreed for the school to be closed on
Wednesday, 21 February 2018 due to the Armed Forces Day celebrations taking place in close proximity to the
school next week. The roads around the school are being closed at 4AM on the morning of the 21st, which will
make it extremely difficult for staff, parents and pupils to access the school. Please also aim to be at school by
7AM on Monday, 19 and Tuesday, 20 February 2018 as the training sessions taking place on both these days may
delay your trip to and from school. The Defense Force/Traffic Department have agreed to allow all parents
through, so please do not keep your child/ren out of school on these days. It was recommended by them that
parents access the school via Elsmere Road, into Salisbury Road and cross over to the school grounds (Cornwall
Street). Then exit via Henderson, right into Milner and then left or right into Dalham Road. This is the latest
information we have received from the SANDF amidst many mixed messages doing the rounds, so we apologize
in advance for any inconvenience experienced.
For ease of access, it is recommended that high school pupils use the pedestrian gate in Synagogue Street.
Primary school pupils may be dropped off on the corner of Henderson and Milner Street from where they will be
accompanied by staff to the school.
St Patrick’s CBC Weekly Information Sheet 5 - 2018
2
Primary School pupils and parents, kindly note that due to St Patrick’s CBC being closed on 21 February 2018, the
weekly test period will move to Thursday, 22 February 2018.
Just a reminder, the Edupac Parents’ Portal Module and Mobile Application Guide for Guardians is active. This
means that you are able to access your children’s’ marks on a secure internet based platform. To register, please
follow the step-by-step process at the end of the WIS.
Similar to the quilted winter jackets available to the pupils, parents may now order
supporter jackets at the Finance office. It will look exactly the same, except there will be
nothing on the back, a school crest of the front, and SUPPORTER embroided below the
crest. The cost is R450.00 per jacket and orders should please be placed at the Finance
Office on or before Friday, 23 February. You can now show that you are proudly part of
this extraordinary family.
We are currently in the period of Lent. During Lent, participants eat sparingly or give up a
particular food or habit and is traditionally observed by Catholics and some Protestant denominations. It begins
with Ash Wednesday and ends with Easter Sunday. It is six weeks of self-discipline. Just as we set aside time to
spiritually prepare for Christmas Day, it makes sense to set aside time to prepare for the other most important
days of the Christian year, so that when Easter comes, it is not just another day at church but an opportunity to
receive the overflowing of graces God has to offer.
A very big thank you once again to the following families/businesses who contributed towards the ECD Centre’s
food stall at the family picnic: Party and More, Dina Ruiters’ family, Heidi van Gensen’s family, Daniel Dreyer’s
family, Caleb Corns’ family, Eliah Cloete’s family, Eve Hugo’s family, Seaward Fitness, Ruben Moroka’s family,
Panino’s Bakery and Forlee’s Supermarket.
The Clothing shop will once again be open from Monday.
Enjoy your weekend!
Yours sincerely,
Jacques Tredoux
Executive Head

as for almost 30 years, it has attracted bright and curious young minds who are self-

The Olympiad is open to ALL learners at South African schools so it is an opportunity to
challenge learners to test their general knowledge against the rest of the country.
The question paper consists of multiple choice questions. The questions on current

TV and online news portals. Approximately one third of the questions are from mainstream newspapers.

Mrs Nel. All payments may be done at the Finance office or with Ms M Sikhakane by 14h00 on 9 March 2018.
GRADE PR & R LONG-SLEEVE T-SHIRTS

fabric and size as the short-sleeved ones, except of course, the longer sleeves. The
cost is the same as last year, R150.00 per shirt. The supplier will manufacture as we
place the orders, so the lead time for delivery will be approximately 3 weeks. Orders
should please be placed at the Finance Office before Tuesday, 27 February 2018.
It was a very quiet week in the sports department due to all the wonderful rain we
have had.
On Thursday our U/9 mini cricket teams played their weekly fixtures.
