The Sanctuary Candle burns
in memory of
Richard Kelly
Blessed Mother Candle burns
For intentions of Marge Welker
What a fascinating experience this is for me to be writ-
ing in this space about the readings. As a mother of 4
little people, sometimes I feel lucky if I even hear the
readings during Mass. Many a Sunday come and go and
I feel as if all I’ve done is wrangle a child and stop
someone from fussing and fighting. In fact, some weeks
it felt so hard to hear God’s word, that my family adopt-
ed a practice for a post-Mass debrief. Now when we
drive home from Church, we ask one another, “So, what
did you hear today?” It doesn’t matter if what we share
comes from a reading, the Gospel, the homily or a
hymn. We just need to share one thing we heard.
Today’s Gospel takes us to the start of Jesus’ Galilean
Ministry. But before we hear the start of His public
ministry, Luke brings us back to the beginning of his
Gospel, which is where I find my word today. After tell-
ing us how we are going to hear the story of Jesus be-
cause he “investigated everything accurately anew” and
has written it down “in an orderly sequence” Luke
writes, “most excellent Theophilus”. Who or what is
“Theophilus”? It reads as if he is talking directly to
someone. And he is. He is talking directly to you. He is
talking directly to me. Theophilus translates to “friend
of God.”
Theophilus, “friend of God”. How beautiful that as Luke
starts to paint the picture of Jesus’ life for us to learn,
he invites us into the story by reminding us of who and
whose we are, a most excellent friend of God.
What did you hear this week?

LIGHT & LOVE HOLY HOUR
Friday, February 8 - 7PM - 8PM
End your week with a time of prayer at St. Patrick Parish. On the
second Friday of each month, you are invited to bring the good and the
bad, the highs and lows of your week and simply be present with God
as you enter a restful weekend.
Each Light & Love event will begin with a brief guided meditation
and silent reflection in order to guide our thoughts and prayers. We
will then enter into adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, simply appre-
ciating God’s endless love for us. Finally, we will close with shared wor-
ship and song to celebrate the glory of being God’s beloved children.

Building and Appeal Update….
Our Growing Together as a Family of Faith Appeal continues to gain momentum as we prepare for our
growing community. The preliminary work for the second & third phases of our project is now
underway. Our next phase is the installation of a new playground for our parish. The preliminary archi-
tectural drawings have been reviewed and there are some updates that need to be included. There will
be an area for our young children, with playground equipment, a safe surface for the children. The playground, in its preliminary stages
has a small area for a basketball net as well as a large open area with grass for kickball. The entire area will have a fence and landscaping.
We will keep you updated as we progress. Thank you for your continued generosity and financial support.
