Emergency Telephone Number: Please note that Father Guanella's
emergency number (715-629-9952) is not Fr. Guanella's cell phone number
and should only be used when there is an actual emergency (e.g., someone
is dying and needs the sacraments or someone has in fact died). When Fr.
Guanella is out-of-town, this number may connect to another priest in the
area. If you need to reach Fr. Guanella for a non-emergency reason, the
best way to reach him directly email.
Dear Friends in Christ,
Praised be Jesus Christ! First, I want to thank everyone for their contributions
this weekend for hurricane relief. As you know, I decided that all the monies
collected will be donated through the Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc., a
nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charity. I have chosen the Knights of Columbus
Charities because 100% of all donations go to disaster relief. All fees and
expenses associated with Knights of Columbus Charities, such operating and
administration costs, are covered by the Knights of Columbus. Every penny
you donate goes directly disaster relief. This support often includes providing
food and clean water, hot meals, clean up materials, shelters, and other
necessities.
Secondly, I want to thank you in advance for your contributions to the
Diocesan Annual Appeal. The largest allocation of the Diocesan Annual
Appeal goes to “Parish Ministries Support” such as catechesis and
evangelization, marriage and family life, ministries and social concerns, and
youth and young adult ministry. Just over 20% goes to supporting seminary
education, vocations promotion, continuing education of clergy, office of the
diaconate, and other services for clergy and religious. These all are vital and
necessary areas of our diocese. Finally, please remember that any amount
donated over our target amount comes back to the parish 100%. For more
information on the Diocesan Annual Appeal, visit www.diolc.org/joy.
This weekend’s readings do give us pause to think about greed and wealth.
The readings are a stern admonition against the accumulations of wealth and
what untamed wealth can do in our hearts and souls. Last week we heard from
the Prophet Amos that the sinful pride of the greedy will be punished. In last
week’s Gospel we were warned against serving material wealth and money
before God. In this week’s readings, we hear what serving greed and material
wealth before God does to us.
St. John Chrysostom gives us some advice to help us: “We do something truly
great and admirable when we give a most courteous welcome to all, even the
outcasts of society or people of humble condition. Anyone wishing to show
kindness should not inquire into other people’s lives, but has only to alleviate
their poverty and supply their needs, as Christ commanded when he said:
‘Imitate your Father in heaven, who makes his sun rise on good and bad alike,
and sends rain on the just and the unjust.’” (Homily on Lazarus 2, 5)
In Christ,
Father Guanella

One of our most successful projects is our Caring Bags. We put together Caring Bags and distribute them to St. Vincent
DePaul, the Hope Center and another local Homeless Charity Center. We will do this project again, and deliver in November,
prior to the real cold weather (we hope!). We are going to be making specifically men and women bags (suggested by those who
received them) so we have added to our list hygiene products such as razors, shave cream or women feminine products.
You are probably asking—what in the “h” is a Caring Bag? It is a Helpful tool for those who may be Homeless, Heartbroken,
Helpless or in need of Hope.
We will be filling canvas bags with the following items and would love some assistance in collecting these:
Nice Warm Socks (may be gently used but not worn out) New Toothbrushes & Small Toothpastes
New Shoe Laces (at least 54” – we use them as ties for the bags) New Wash Cloths
Sample Size Shampoo and Conditioners (like what you get in hotels) Pairs of Gloves or Mittens and Hats
Sample Soaps (individually wrapped – like what you get in hotels) Bottles of Water
Hand Towels (may be gently used but not worn out – must be washed)
Personal Grooming products for men and/or women (razors, shave cream, women feminine products)
If you can Help with any of these items, please bring to church and place in the baskets marked Caring Bags. Then, please come
Help on Nov 4th in the basement of Church. Once assembled, they will be distributed to shelters and facilities that Help those
that need. We learn from each other and have a lot of fun in the process. Come join us! P. S. If you like to sew, please consider
making some of the bags. Simple directions and all material supplied. Contact Bernie at 715-592-4654 God Bless you All for
supporting this Mission!
