Summer Assignments Looking for summer assignments or Fall Supply
Lists? You will find them on the SDSC Smart Phone APP or under the "For Parents" Tab on our
website. Have your child do a little each day… Keep them learning!
How will Covid-19 impact 2020-2021? The Archdiocese has assembled a panel of experts to create an action plan for the safe
return to school. Details about those plans will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead. Though some of you may be a bit anxious about the upcoming school year, please be assured that the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. As decisions are made, we will communicate them to you. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience and understanding. Be sure to bookmark the ADNY Covid-19 Information Page where the latest information is always posted. You can find it on the home screen of the school website, and on the SDSC Smartphone App
One Month Down!
Can you believe that an entire month of summer vacation is in the books? It's been a hot summer so far and we hope everyone has been able to find ways to keep cool and enjoy some summer fun! In between the fun don't forget about those summer assignments.
Important School Supply Notices
Please note that required items may be revised or added
to the Fall Supply Lists once school reopening plans are
finalized and announced. Also, there may be items on your
child's list that are out of stock or in short supply due to
Covid-19 related supply issues. Don't worry! Do the best
you can. We understand and will make adjustments where
necessary
Introducing AmazonSmile!
SDSC is now participating in AmazonSmile, a fundraising program offered by Amazon.com. It's easy to participate and you only need to sign-up once! Once you activate AmazonSmile, a percentage of most of your purchases will be donated to SDSC. You can even use the SmartPhone App. Please note: this program replaces the Amazon Associates Program, which is no longer valid.
Plants get thirsty too! Since Dutchess County is experiencing "moderate drought conditions," water is more important than ever for the Project Nourish garden! Fortunately, we were able to install a water saving micro-irrigation system early this summer. Our new irrigation system was designed and installed by Mr. Krebs. The watering of each garden bed is independently controlled. The watering timer and mechanisms are entirely solar powered and it even features a precipitation detector that turns off the system when it rains! The drip irrigation delivers water to the plant roots, which prevents loss of water to evaporation and help keeps plant leaves disease free. Thanks to Mr. Carchi the water distribution system is entirely underground! The irrigation system was made possible through a grant from the Eastern New York Air and Waste Management Association and support from the Tri-Parish St. Vincent de Paul Society.
New Chromebooks Are Here!
Last week SDSC received 56 new Acer Chromebooks, bringing our total number of Chromebooks to 225! These devices will be
essential resources in educating our students now and in the post-Covid future.
The Chromebooks were made possible due to the generosity of a benefactor to the Archdiocese of New York. We are most grateful for their support!
Registration Fee Rebate Announced
In appreciation to our families for committing to Catholic education at SDSC, every family who enrolls for school year 20-21 will receive a credit on their December 2020 SMART tuition bill for the full amount of the registration fee paid for each of their children! This rebate is made possible by the Schools of the Archdiocese of New York. (To receive the credit, you must have paid the enrollment fee and remain enrolled at SDSC through December. The credit will appear in your SMART account in December.)
Healing After Abortion Do you know someone who is carrying the grief of a past abortion? There is always hope. The pain and
sorrow of abortion does not need to endure for a lifetime. A “Day of Prayer and Healing” offers the opportunity to experience the love and mercy of God and to respond to His invitation to begin the journey of healing the wound of abortion. For upcoming dates, locations, and confidential registration, or just to
talk to a Sister, please call the Sisters of Life at (866) 575-0075 (toll free) or reach us by email at : hopeandhealing@sistersoflife.org

St. Vincent de Paul Back to School Drive Although there is uncertainly about students being in the physical classroom, we are still collecting back to school supplies. Students will need: pens, pencils, crayons, folders, composition books, glue sticks, wide ruled loose leaf paper, wide ruled spiral notebooks, scissors, pencil boxes, pencil sharpeners, rulers, erasers, back packs, tissues and lunch boxes. Any donation is gratefully accepted. Please drop off items where St. Vincent de Paul food items are collected. Thank you for your support!
Grade 8 Team Wins Arch Media Award!
Nearly 200 students from more than 30 schools participated in the first annual "Arch Media Awards. This multimedia journalism program challenged students to produce 60-90 second videos that tell a story just as it is done by reporters and editors around the world. The theme assigned was “What Makes My School Catholic.” Congratulations to SDSC Class of 2020 Graduates Madison Townsend and Morgan McHale on winning an "Arch Media Award" for their smart phone video. They were one of only nine winning grade school teams across the entire Archdiocese.

Month of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Dear friends in the Lord: In our diocese, we will collect an offering for the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa the weekend of August 8-9. As part of its pastoral mission to promote ethical and responsible citizenship, the Church is a voice advocating for free, fair, and transparent elections throughout Africa. After over 35 years under one ruler, for example, Zimbabwe held general elections in July 2018. To help ensure the credibility of this historic event, the Inter-Regional Meeting of the Bishops of Southern Africa (IMBISA) trained and deployed bishops, priests, religious, and lay leaders to be election observers. In Malawi, the local episcopal conference worked to engage faith leaders to develop voter materials, train civic leaders, organize voter registration, and develop media campaigns to pray for and participate in the election process. Because of your generosity, the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa can aid local leaders working to educate voters and to ensure free and fair elections. Your support is a crucial part of helping the Church to promote good governance in Zimbabwe, Malawi, and beyond. The Church in Africa needs your help to ensure that all the faithful have access to resources to help them grow in the faith. Please be generous to this collection in your parish THIS weekend. To learn more about the collection and whom it supports, visit: www.usccb.org/africa With gratitude and prayerful best wishes, I am, Faithfully in Christ, +Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan Archbishop of New York
