Jesus said to them,
“Come after me, and I will make
you fishers of men.”
—Matthew 4:19
They caught a great
number of fish. Luke 5:6
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY! “Holy, holy, holy!” Ancient languages, like the Hebrew used in the scriptures, did not always have a way to express superlatives in one word. Isaiah could not say God was “holiest,” so he used the threefold repetition of the same word. This bit of scriptural minutiae about these “three little words” that we sing at every Mass serves as a reminder that answering God’s call has to be grounded in awareness of God’s holiness. In Isaiah and in the Gospel passage today, we hear accounts of the revelation of God’s power and might: the seraphim in the temple and the miraculous catch of fish. These are not wondrous revelations for their own sakes. They lead to a response in mission, Isaiah’s “Here I am, send me!” and the disciples’ leaving everything to follow Jesus. And so must our own “Holy, Holy, Holy!” lead us to Christ in the Eucharist every Sunday, and to a life following him day by day. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co

On February 11, 1858, a young lady appeared to Bernadette Soubirous. This began a series of visions. Bernadette gave an account of what she saw. It was “a pretty young girl with a rosary over her arm.” Her white robe was encircled by a blue girdle. She wore a white veil. There was a yellow rose on each foot. A rosary was in her hand. Through that humble girl, Mary revitalized the faith of millions of people. In 1862 Church authorities confirmed the authenticity of the apparitions. The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes became worldwide in 1907.

Pray For The Sick
First Reading — In a vision Isaiah is called to be a messenger for the Lord of hosts. Isaiah responds, “Send me!” (Isaiah 6:1-2a, 3-8) Psalm — In the sight of the angels I will sing your praises, Lord (Psalm 138). Second Reading — Paul reminds us of the gospel he preached through which we are saved, if we believe it (1 Corinthians 15:1-11 [3-8, 11]). Gospel — Jesus directs Simon to take his boat into deep water for a miraculous catch of fish. Simon and his partners leave all to follow Jesus (Luke 5:1-11).

A little girl was sitting on her grandfather's lap as he read her a bedtime story. From time to time, she would take her eyes off the book and reach up to touch his wrinkled cheek. She was alternately stroking her own cheek, then his again. Finally she spoke up, “Grandpa, did God make you?” “Yes, sweetheart,” he answered, “God made me a long time ago,” “Oh,” she paused, “Grandpa, did God make me too?” “Yes, indeed, honey,” he said, “God made you just a little while ago.” Feeling their respective faces again, the little girl observed, “God's getting better at it, isn't He?” THE BOOK OF CATHOLIC JOKES, by Deacon Tom Sheridan published by ACTA Publications, Chicago, Ill

SUNDAY SERIES
ST VINCENT DE PAUL - HISTORICAL This window is dedicated to Mother Vica Radisch by the Jack Radisch family. I could not find out anything about Vica Radisch except that she may have been a nun as she was Jack Radisch's sister. Jack Radisch and his wife Lucille were members of this parish during the 1950's. They lived on Claiborne St. here in Bixby Knolls. Jack Radisch was born in July 1891 and lived until 1981, he passed away in El Cajon, Ca. and is buried there. His wife Lucille, was born in May 1910, and also passed away in El Cajon, Ca in 1987. I am not sure how long they lived in our parish but they were here in 1957. —Patricia Carambelas
Jesus was clear that we must express our love for God through our love for our neighbors. And love is an “action word.” It means we have to “do” something. Together in Mission is Christian love in action. This money goes directly to the neediest parishes and schools. It covers the basics — the water bill, the electric bill, and necessary repairs. Together in Mission makes sure that poor parishes can stay open for worship and for the pastoral care of their communities. Without your help, many of these parishes and schools would surely have had to close their doors. Please give generously to Together in Mission.

Treasures from our Tradition
Safe Guarding The Children
DID YOU KNOW? Setting boundaries fosters healthy relationships We create boundaries to keep our lives in order, for example many adults separate personal and professional relationships. Trusted adults can help teach children to do the same. Boundaries are essential in the foundation of relationships, and children should be comfortable expressing where they draw their own lines. “No means no” is easy to say in theory, but it should be respected in practice by your kids and their friends, teachers and other adults. Teach your kids how to explore their own comfort zones and give them time to tell you about their experiences. Open communication helps them understand that setting boundaries is part of life. For a copy of the Virtus® article “Good Boundaries Yield Healthy Relationships” email jvienna@la-archdiocese.org.

SBSpring Event starting March 7th.
As the Roman Empire shattered and collapsed, the bishops
were the people best equipped to catch the falling stones.
In the West (that’s us), they sought to stabilize society by
weaving a structure of laws and courts to uphold the rights
and dignity of married couples in a chaotic world. The
bishops in the East had a different approach, even allow-
ing the dissolution of marriages in certain cases. To an
extent, the bishops took a measure of control away from
the fathers of families in order to provide pastoral care for
those who suffered most in the social collapse: women and
children.
In the West, much of the marriage law was contained in
the “penitential books” the bishops devised to regulate the
lives of public sinners. In the seventh century, Theodore of
Canterbury’s penitential book said that he had the power
to give consent to remarriage in the case of a poor fellow
whose wife had been carried off by the Vikings. If the Vi-
kings subsequently brought her back, she could remarry,
too! No bishop ever made peace with divorce, but there
was never a time when the pastoral concern of the church
was not struggling with how to care for people in unhappy
situations.
