Fourteenth Sunday

Welcome and Grace of Hospitality *Bringing In the Light of Christ *Call to Worship (responsively)
Come and worship! Let this be the welcoming place for all; the place of return. And let it be built by a love that bends towards those who return here.
For it is a love that has been waiting like a candle in the window, ever lighting the way back, and never willing to let go of the hope that each child will return home.
Let this always be the place where the only appropriate response to love is to feast and celebrate, for that which has been away has returned to be among us once more. Praise and Worship Music Prayer of Approach (in unison)
Again and again we return to you, most welcoming God. Again and again we seek your face, searching for that glint of grace in your eyes, for that insightful word from your tongue, for that compassionate smile on your countenance. Again and again we sit at your feet, learning to love more often, to give more selflessly, more unreservedly, to listen more carefully and speak more boldly. Again and again we gather to give you thanks, most wondrous God. Amen.

Feed A Hungry Child was conceived by a small group of community
adults and an educator in Pickens County, SC who realized there were
children in our school system who had no food on the weekends. The
elementary principal secured funding for the 14 students in her
school to provide a basic of life, food. Once word spread, a committee
was formed and students were identified at 12 of the 15 elementary
schools who were also not getting the basic need of food on
weekends. Three of the schools had sponsors of PTA to help in their
program and did not wish to participate at the time we formed the
program. Many reasons were given for the lack of food, be it
parenting skills, out of work and no resources, drugs, alcohol, etc. It
did not matter what the reason, the children needed food to thrive
and survive. Nine years since the inception of the program they are
serving close to 600 students weekly. Only $6.00 a week will feed a
Hungry Student on weekends. A $6.00 meal consist of cereal (2),
juice, snack crackers, canned meals, canned/packaged fruit and
non-perishable milk.
Donations to Feed A Hungry Child Pickens County go directly to
children of our community. A monthly gift of $6.00 a week or $192.00
a year will help deliver nutritious, ready-to-eat meals into the hands
of hungry students.
Checks may be made to St. Andrew UMC with a notation at the bot-
tom, “Feed A Hungry Child”.

We are pleased to

celebration. The Lord
saved Alex in 2011
and called him to
pastoral ministry
shortly after. Alex
started out in ministry
at St. Andrew United Methodist Church. In the time
since he left St. Andrew, the Lord has been graciously
providing preaching opportunities for him all across
South Carolina, as well as in other states. In
September 2016, he married his best friend, Anna
McKinney, and the Lord has blessed them abundantly
–they are expecting their first child, a boy, in late
November. Alex graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in
Christian Studies from North Greenville University in
May of 2017, and started the Master of Divinity
program at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in
June 2017, and will graduate in May of 2020. Later in
2017, Alex was licensed to the gospel ministry and
ordained by Georges Creek Baptist Church. Since his
licensing and ordination, he has been faithfully
serving and consistently preaching and teaching at
Georges Creek. The Lord continues to be good and
bless Anna and Alex in many different ways, dem-
onstrating His great love and kindness to sinners
saved by grace.
