Springhead 2016 Annual Review

In this special Edi�on the Springhead Annual Review 2016 we would firstly

like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and thank

you for your support throughout 2016.

This Annual Review aims to capture the ac�vity that has taken place at

Springhead Park during 2016 as well as outlining some of our future

aspira�ons for Springhead for 2017. We hope to that during 2017 we will

develop a more regular news le�er and would like members to help steer

the content so if you have any par�cular item you would like to see

Tesco Bags of Help: Groundworksuccessfully secured the managementrole for the Tesco Community GrantsScheme. Our role is to support Tescoto provide funding to environmentalgroups across the country using fundsfrom the 5 pence carrier bag levy. Inthe first year we have enabled localgroups across Yorkshire and theHumber region to access £1,380,000funding for environmental projects.

Groundwork locally has been workingon a range of projects:

Alderman Kneeshaw Pa r k : Workingwith the Friends group Groundworkhave created a Master Plan forimprovements and helped secure fund-ing for wildflower enhancements,nature trail and challenging play equip-ment.

Healthy Cookin g : Groundwork hasbeen working with Hull City CouncilPublic Health: Providing healthycooking training workshops to parentsand families.

Western Library:Groundwork hascon�nued tosupport Hull CityCouncil LibraryServices and theFriends of theWestern Libraryto develop thecommunitygarden on theBoulevard. We successfully securedfunding for events and con�nuedimprovements. The garden won aSilver Gilt in the Yorkshire In BloomAwards 2015 and 2016.

Macmillan Nursery Schoo:l : Workedwith pupils, staff and parents of theMacmillan Nursery on 21st Avenue.Helping them to construct agreenhouse from recycled pop-bo�lescollected by the community and buildan outdoor oven built from Cob with aliving roof.

Withernsea: We have been suppor�ngERYC and partners of the MillenniumGreen Play Park. We helped thepartnership secure funding from theBig Local Trust for the development ofa sustainable plan for the park.Groundwork have created a MasterPlan for a Park that will lead the wayfor the area in innova�ve and inclusiveplay.

Holme on Spalding Mo: o r : We areworking with The Holme on SpaldingMoor Village Hall Commi�ee to helpthem secure funding for vitalimprovements to the Village Hall.

Springhead Park Ac�ve Memories:Groundwork secured funding to

develop a 40 week pilot enablingpeople over 25 who may be sociallyisolated or living with long term healthcondi�ons includingmemory loss to stayfit and ac�ve. Aswell as the weeklyac�vi�es we alsoorganised our 2ndOlder Peoples eventat the WymersleyPark Bowls Pavilion.

Course drainage and refurbishment of

clubhouse

January: Swee�ngs commencedwork

on the main 100mm drain for the

course.

February: U n f o rtunately d u e t o

severe weather Swee�ngs had to put a

halt to the works.

March: We saw the start of refurbish-

ment of the Clubhouse with Colin

Headon & Newman undertaking deco-

ra�on of the main bar area. Air 2 G2

machine hired to improve drainage of

the greens.

April–May: Swee�ngs recommenced

work on the course and club house

refurbishments were well underway.

June: W ork o n D D A compliance

including toilets and disabled access

completed by CPS Construc�on. New

carpets were installed in club house

bar by East Yorkshire Carpets and all

the wooden fixtures, flooring and bar

were renovated by Paul Hebdon

French Polisher. Fixed sea�ng areas

were re-upholstered by Academy Up-

holstery.

July: Swee�ngs con�nue wtih drain-

age works. Imp r ovement works to the

pa�o area undertaken and the addi-

�on of a new spike bar.

August/September:

Swee�ngs finish work on 7th pond and

new feature ditch on the 6th

October: Swee�ngs returned to finish

the final elements of the head walls

and remaining back-filling. Addi�onal

fairway spraying works for weeds un-

dertaken.

November: New Signage to the south

eleva�on of the club house and new

stools for the bar area. Winter mats

and replacement rakes acquired. Work

to Ver�-drain the fairways

Future Plans: We ar e now looking to

use any remaining Key Fund money to

good use in improving the catering

facili�es and poten�al addi�onal

improvements to the course.
