• Rhetorical Analysis (RA) – Classical study of rhetoric that is mostly literature-based (text-driven)

– Close study of the relationship among language, meaning, and audience

– Concentration on American literature (non-fiction primarily)

– Focus on controversial social and philosophical arguments

– Not many field trips

• Interrelated Arts (IA) – Thematic approach view relationships between literature, art, music, and

architecture

– American literature integrated with the arts (but NOT an art class)

– Study of rhetoric as it applies to these disciplines

– For literature portion of curriculum, focus is on American fiction and non-fiction

– Focus on major periods of philosophical thought and development in America & Europe

– 5-6 field trips over the year

Prepare for AP Language exam

UPCOMING COLLEGE PREPARATION EVENTS

AP classes and SAT subject tests

• If you are in an AP class, the end of your sophomore year would be the best time to take an SAT subject test for that academic area.

• Some highly selective colleges may require 2-3 SAT subject tests as part of the admission process.

• Taking the test at the completion of the course allows for optimum results since the material is fresh in your mind.

• See your counselor if you have questions about this.
