SOLAR Multi-Purpose Charger

The cells in the panel are made up of semiconductor material which transforms light energy into electrical energy

Solar panels use light energy (photons) from the sun to generate electricity through the photovoltaic effect.

The cells in the panel are made up of semiconductor material which transforms light energy into electrical energy.

Diode D1 allows current into three regulator ICs to provide regulated voltage to the load.

High value capacitors C1 and C2 act as current buffers so that a short duration interruption in current flow from the panel will not affect the charging process.

Red LED indicates the charging process.

Parts of the ProjectSolar Panel

Solar panels use light energy (photons) from the sun to generate electricity through the photovoltaic effect.

Parts of the Projectthin-film cells based on cadmium telluride or

silicon.The conducting wires that take the current off the

panels may contain silver or copper.Cells must also be protected from mechanical

damage and moisture.Each panel is rated by its DC output power.A 12 volt 5 Watt solar panel is used as the source of

current. When the sunlight is maximum, the solar module

can generate around 16.5 volts at 400 mA.

Voltage Regulator IC’s A voltage regulator is an electrical regulator

designed to automatically maintain a constant voltage level.

IC voltage regulators are three-terminal devices that provide a constant DC output voltage that is independent of the input voltage, output load current, and temperature.

The 78xx (sometimes LM78xx) is a family of self-contained fixed linear voltage regulator integrated circuits.

The 78xx line are positive voltage regulators.

79xx devices which are complementary negative voltage regulators.

78xx ICs are easy to use and handle but these cannot give a altering voltage.

The input voltage must always be higher than the output voltage by some minimum amount .

batteries including Mobile phone battery.
