DESCRIPTION

The terms 'social media' and 'productivity' don't have to be an oxymoron when used together. You can be efficient and effective online, achieve your goals and still have a life offline. I gave this presentation at ConvergeSouth 2012 on Oct. 12 in Greensboro, N.C. A warning ...

• Don’t be too efficient– Separate personal and business social media

accounts as much as possible– Don’t forget to spellcheck– Think before you tweet/comment/whatever

• Slowing down can be more productive sometimes

Hacks, Tools & Resources

1. Dashboards Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, SocialOomph, etc., etc. Some are better at some things than other – it’s OK to

use more than one if you have distinct uses or want to separate accounts

Hacks, Tools & Resources

2. Checklists– Don’t reinvent the wheel or rely on your memory– If you don’t have them, start creating them. – Useful when delgating.– Ex. A checklist for publishing a blog post (what to

do after it’s published, etc.)

Hacks, Tools & Resources

3. Automation Built into lots of social media dashboards, content

management software Roll your own with IFTTT (ifttt.com) Email filters – don’t let everything get to your inbox

(built into Outlook, Gmail and most other email programs)

Hacks, Tools & Resources

4. Search Don’t spend a lot of time browsing for information

when you can search for it Ex. Set up alerts/feeds/emails so relevant content

comes to you Ex. Use browser’s search within a page Ex. Google’s or Bing’s “site:linkedin.com” Ex. Search functions within social media sites
