BodyLase Skin spa

What is Smartlipo?

• Smartlipo is an amazing, new technique for removing fat and contouring the body

• Its cutting-edge technology melts and liquefies fat to improve your body contour

• At the same time it smoothes and tightens the skin to decrease the looseness that is sometimes seen following traditional liposuction

• Smartlipo has been FDA-Approved since 2007• It offers the superb results with the less downtime

then traditional liposuction and tightens the skin

Why is Smartlipo better than traditionalliposuction?

Smooth, beautiful results

Shorter recovery time

Minimal discomfort

Because it uses a laser to melt the fat there is less bleeding, bruising and swelling than traditional liposuction

Not only does it remove fat but it tightens the skin over the areas where the fat has been removed--better contour

Who Who are candidates for SmartLipo?

People who are in good health, within 25 pounds of their ideal weight (BMI<30), and are seeking sculpting and contouring

People who do not have a lot of time for recovery (most people are back to work within 1-2 days of treatment)

People who have smaller, stubborn fatty areas that just won’t respond to diet and exercise

How does Smartlipo work?Laser Effect to Treatment Area

A very small laser beam will be inserted just under your skin. The laser light melts and liquifies the fat, which is then easily removed through a tiny incision.

Who performs Smartlipo at BodyLase?

• Dr. Karl Schwarz performs all of the Smartlipo procedures at BodyLase

• Dr. Schwarz is the BodyLase medical director and is a Raleigh plastic surgeon

• He received his plastic surgery training at Duke University

How Many Treatments are Needed?

• Most people typically require just ONE treatment!

• The procedure is permanent - the fat is removed from the problem area and will NOT grow back

Is the Treatment Painful?

• Smartlipo is a minimally invasive treatment performed under local anesthesia

• You will be provided some Valium prior to the procedure to make you more relaxed

• There is very little pain involved, and you will be awake and comfortable during the treatment

• Occasionally, you may feel a minor stinging sensation or tugging feeling during the treatment, but these discomforts are minimal

• Most people tolerate the procedure very well

How much down-time will I have?

• Recovery from Smartlipo is much faster than with traditional liposuction and is relatively pain free

• Most people return to work within 1-2 days

• There are no restrictions on your activity, so you can resume your usual exercise as soon as you feel up to it

Less Down-time with Smartlipo...

Aesth Plast Surg 26:335, 2002

A: Reduced bleeding resulting from coagulation of small vesselsSmartLipo

B: Bleeding during conventional liposuction

Smartlipo has much less bleeding than traditional liposuction due to the action of the laser heating the tissue

What happens after the treatment?

• Your procedure will be performed using a local anesthetic so you won’t have to undergo or recover from a general anesthestic

• As a result there is less nausea and dizziness afterwards

• You will usually go home within an hour of the Smartlipo treatment

Does Smartlipo treat cellulite?

• Smartlipo will improve the body’s shape and may improve cellulite to a certain degree

• For those with more problematic cellulite you will benefit from a combined treatment of Smartlipo followed by TriActive

• TriActive is a wonderful treatment for cellulite that can be used after you have healed from your Smartlipo treatment

• TriActive can reduce cellulite and enhance the results of your Smartlipo treatment

What areas can I treat?• Abdomen• Back• Bra fat• Buttocks• Chin• Hips• Knees• Male breasts (gynecomastia)• Mons pubis• Neck• Thighs (saddle bags)• Upper Arms

What should I expect afterwards?

• Minor bruising, swelling and numbness can occur in the treated area, which should resolve within a week

• You will be required to wear a compression garment, which is key to recovery, for a couple of weeks after treatment

Who cannot have Smartlipo?

• Diabetics/people taking insulin• People taking coumadin, lovenix or heparin• People with hypertension• IMPORTANT:

• You must stop all NSAIDs/aspirin 1 week prior to treatment.• You should stop smoking 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after

treatment as smoking inhibits healing.

What are the risks of Smartlipo?• As with any medical procedure, there are risks and

with Smartlipo they include:• Infection: is rare, but should it occur, treatment with antibiotics and / or

surgical drainage may be required.

• Skin irregularities: lumpiness, hardness, skin pigment changes and

dimpling may appear. Most of these problems disappear with time, but may be permanent. If loose skin is present in the treated areas, it may or may not shrink to conform to the new contour.

• Numbness or increased sensitivity of the skin over the treated areas may

persist for months. It is possible that localized areas of numbness or increased sensitivity could be permanent.

• Scarring: Objectionable scarring is rare because of the small size of the incisions used in Smartlipo but unfavorable scar formation is possible.

Risks of Smartlipo (con’t)

• Bleeding: This is extremely rare, and in very rare instances could require hospitalization and blood transfusion. It is possible that blood clots may form under the skin and require subsequent surgical drainage. A collection of lymph fluid may develop which could require drainage.

• Burns: Because the Smartlipo treatment involves a laser, it is possible that you could get skin burns and/or blisters. These are rare and usually heal quickly if they should occur. However, it is possible that permanent scarring and/or skin discoloration could occur.

• Allergic Reaction: It is rare but possible that you may have an allergic reaction to local anesthesia.

• Unhappy with Results: The goal of liposuction surgery, as in any other cosmetic procedure, is improvement of appearance; not perfection. It does not guarantee the reduction of any measurements, including the neck, waist and all other areas. No guarantees are made and no refunds are given.
