Slides of Anatomy

Please note : These slides are Dr. Maher Hadidi’s slides of

spring 2016 and were edited by the Premed Academic Team to fit the slides of spring 2019.

Upper LimbLecture 6

Anterior compartment of forearm

Spring 2019 2Dr. Maher Hadidi, University of Jordan

ForearmLayers:1.Skin 2.Superficial fascia.

a. Cephalic vein.b. Basilic vein.

3.Deep fascia:▪ Sends 2 septums one

to radius and one to ulna which divides the forearm into 2 compartments.

▪ Thickened anterior to the wrist j. to form the flexor retinaculum.

Carpal tunnel

Dr. Maher Hadidi, University of JordanSpring 2019 5

➢ Carpal bones form a concave arch anterior.

➢ The FR bridges the concave carpal arch to form the carpal tunnel below.

Flexor retinaculumFR act as a subway for the long flexor tendons between the forearm and the hand

Functions:

▪ hold long flexor tendons to direct their pull while in action.

▪ 6 structures pass above it. ▪ 10 structures pass below it.

Triangular space anterior to the elbow j.

Borders: ▪ Base→ interepicondylar line.

▪ Lat. → Brachioradialis.▪ Med. → Pronator teres.

Superficial layer:-4 Muscles, 1-4.-All originates from CFO.-All supply by median n. except 1 by Ulnar n.

Intermediatelayer

Consists 1 M FDS.

◼ Origin:3 bones HUR.

◼ Insertion:• Pass deep to flexor

retinaculum.

• Give 4 tendons to medial 4 fingers.

◼ Action:• Flex wrist joint.

• Flex 4 med fingers.

◼ NS:Median N.

Deep layer

3 muscles (1-3)▪ 1 & 2 are

flexors.▪ No. 3 pronate

forearm.

▪ 2 flexors pass below flexor retinaculum.

▪ All by median nerve except tendons to the little and ring fingers of FDP by ulnar nerve.
