Rip Sokol and Demi Fortuna demonstrated how to build a hidden basin using a small disappearing waterfall reservoir (DF-R2). They also demonstrated how a pond vault (AWGOPV) can be used to capture roof runoff water for reuse by using Atlantic Water Garden’s Clean Rain Ultra (AWGRHCRU) to deflect debris from a downspout.

Before moving ahead with the rest of the day, everyone enjoyed a traditional lunch of Hamburgers and Hot Dogs. Ginger makes one delicious Cole Slaw!

Shown above is a Kasco ¼ HP Aerating Fountain (KM14JFL). An Aerating Fountain splashes the water into the air to create an aesthetically pleasing display. There is a wide range of fountains on the market. Some are designed more for display than aeration and some mix more aeration with the display. Chris Pines, a Kasco representative, joined us to discuss the benefits and options available for aerating fountains.

Pond & Lake Aeration Demonstration

The waterfall and stream pictured above is one that Rip Joe Sokol built a few years ago. We used this as our back drop for the “Round-table” discussion of how to build waterfalls, streams and ponds. The waterfall and 30’ stream in this picture flow into a hidden reservoir beneath the stones, giving it a unique appearance.

Here we have displayed a hidden reservoir to show how the pieces of the system would fit together. The pump vault, at the end could go at either end, or in between the reservoir cubes. The system shown above is small. You can add reservoir cubes as needed depending on the size of your basin.

Rip demonstrated how to place the rubber liner when constructing a waterfall and stream feature. Here, he demonstrates using the Integra Liner (PLI) with an Inward Curving Expandable Waterfall and Left/Right Ends (EPEWI16, EPEWLR2)

We used two types of liners to demonstrate waterfall, stream and pond construction. On the right, Firestone Pond liner (PLF) and on the left, we show the Integra Pond Liner (PLI). Paul Chapley demonstrates the elasticity of the Integra pond liner by sticking his finger into it. The Integra Liner seemed to pique the interest of many of our contractors.

Five different options for construction of waterfalls and spillways are shown in the picture above.

Hidden Reservoir and Spillway

By the end of the day, the lighting was just right to get a demonstration of different lighting options for pond and garden. The picture above is a demonstration of the IlluminFx lighting system. This remote/WiFi operated system is magnificent for any landscape. The programming options are nearly limitless.

This is the same Kasco Aeration Fountain that was shown earlier, but in the dark, you can see the ring of light around the base. As the night falls, the light illuminates the fountain, making it even more aesthetically pleasing while aerating the water.

Shown here are Atlantic Water Gardens 2watt Compact warm white spotlight (AWGSOLW02) and the Warm White Light Ring, 7watt (AWGSOLWOLR). Both lights are safe for underwater (or dry landscape) use, as shown in the pictures above. Illuminate your waterfalls and make lights dance on rocks with these great LED options.

Underwater Lighting

At the end of the evening, when all of the guests had left, Rip and Ginger enjoyed the lights of Atlantic Water Garden’s SOL Underwater lighting system that was shown close up in the previous slide. The big stone is illuminated by the 7watt Warm White Light Ring and appears to dance with the flowing water. The 2 Watt light located half way up the stream has a shine that illuminates the rocks that are a good 6-8 feet beyond the actual light placement. The tree is lit by a 6watt SOL placed out of the water.
