What Is The Difference Between A Wet Slide And A Stained Slide?

Materials

Slide

specimen

Dropper

Water

Cover slip

Paper towels

Optical lens paper

Step 1

Carefully place the item you want to look at in the center of a clean, glass slide. Make sure the sample is thin enough for light to pass through.

Step 2

Use a dropper to place one or two drops of water on the sample.

Step 3

Hold a clean cover slip by the edges and place it at one edge of the water. Slowly lower the cover slip onto the water until it lies flat.

Step 4

If you have to much water or a lot of air bubbles, touch the edge of a paper towel to the edge of the cover slip to draw off extra water and draw out unwanted air.

Step 1 and 2

1.Use a prepared wet-mount slide

2.Place one drop of dye to the outside edge of the slip cover

Step 3

Place a paper towel at the end of the cover slip opposite the stain. The towel will draw the stain under the cover slip staining the specimen.

Wash your hands before and after the lab.

Be careful with the dye it will stain.

Glass slides will break.
