Short Film Editing Process
During the editing of my short film I encountered many different obstacles and challenges to make
the film look real and to the standard I wanted to achieve. One of the main challenges I faced was
the shootout scene involving 2 guns and someone being shot. For this I had to add various effects,
both visual and audio, to give it a real effect.
I used some preset effects I already owned and
added a Muzzle Flash to the gun each time the
trigger was pressed. This made it more obvious
that the gun was being fired.
Another effect that I used was the Gunshot sound which added to the effect and helps make this
scene much more dramatic. I synchronised this with the muzzle flashes and the pressing of the
trigger on the gun to make sure it was as realistic as possible.
Both of the above effects were added in the programme, Adobe After Effects.
Another one of the main effects I used throughout the entire film was a colour correction to give the
film a darker, more sinister feel. Below you can see the before and after, and how the effect gave a
whole new feel to the film.
