PAPAPOSTOLOU SERAFEIM 10/1-2013

Goal : “NATO Forces 2020”: modern,

tightly connected forces

To help us reach this goal, we also agreed at Chicago to pursue two separate initiatives:

Connected Forces and Smart Defence.

NATO FORCES 2020

PAPAPOSTOLOU SERAFEIM 11/1-2013

Smart Defence : The aim here is

to encourage multinational solutions to maintaining and acquiring defence capabilities –

in other words, nations working together to deliver capabilities

that they cannot afford alone

NATO FORCES 2020Connected Forces . Its objective is

to maintain and strengthen the readiness and interoperability

of our forces, even as our operations draw down.

PAPAPOSTOLOU SERAFEIM 14/1-2013

Cost-cutting is forcing some Allies to opt out of certain capabilities entirely, without any prior coordination with other Allies or NATO force planners.

NATO FORCES 2020In the future, if we can encourage specialisation by design, we can not only avoid creating new gaps, but also promote a more rational division of labor.

• Greece as a member of international organizations,

• develops military diplomacy

• to promote and maintain good relations,

• establish constructive cooperation and

• resolve potential problems and disputes

• with peaceful means.
