WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS
To contribute to the delivery of an effective and responsive library service by providing front-line customer service that enhances and maximises the customer experience by promoting and utilising services and delivering programmes and events.
This position is a Children’s Worker as defined under the Children’s Act 2014. Hamilton City Council is committed to providing a safe environment for children attending Council-owned and operated facilities. It is expected that all Council employees working with children and young people will operate in a way that reflects this intent.

WHAT YOU WILL DO Reporting to the Ringa Tohu (Service Supervisor and Service
Team Leader), you will assist Library patrons with utilising
the full-range of library services.
Being the first to greet patrons and exhibit good behaviour
for a calming environment, you will also support Library
initiatives and programmes to increase public engagement
as well as reading and technological literacies.
KEY OUTCOMES
Some of the key outcomes for this role include:
Patrons of Hamilton Libraries are provided with
positive and professional service in a welcoming, safe
environment
Library services such as book issuing, renewals,
registrations are provided accurately and timely
Library patrons are empowered with independent use
of the library, resources and equipment through
coaching and support
Library programmes, events and promotions are
successfully delivered
Transactions are accurate and processed within the set
guidelines
Customers can easily access collections that are
maintained as per presentation standards
Collections are maintained according to Hamilton City
Libraries standards
Actively participates in team meetings and
demonstrates a commitment to collaborative and
agreed objectives.
Participates effectively as a member of the team
Actively participate, comply and engage in all health
& safety activities, policies, and practices including
Civil Defence.

Adhere to the Child Protection policy, procedures and
requirements to ensure the safety and wellbeing for
children and young people at Council facilities.
Attend and participate in mandatory child protection
training programmes, including induction and refresher
courses.
Undergo mandatory regular safety checks (minimum
every 3 years) and any other time Council deems it
appropriate.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range
of stakeholders (internal and external)
Ability to operate independently, anticipate
requirements and monitor workload
Previous experience within the customer services industry
Experience in or willingness to learn to lead
programmes to preschoolers and primary school students
Understanding of basic monetary transactions, including
balancing and report preparation.
Experienced in use of applications including Microsoft
Office and internet-based technologies
Sound knowledge of library collections (including e
resources)
