COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is 100% online. This course will provide an understanding of

sentence structure. You will engage in learning modules that instruct you on the correct use of sentence structure.

Things you should know:

Sentences- complete sentences and fragments Technology-basic computer skills; word processing, accessing the internet; downloading, uploading, and attaching documents.

PROCEDURES This course will be hosted on

Modules will be posted once per week on Monday, and all module work is due by 8:00 P.M. Friday.

Late assignments will receive a five point deduction.

Updates will be placed in the Notifications section of the Home page.

Saving Assignments: Save all documents with your last name, first initial and title of the assignment. Ex: BaconLsentencequiz

Submitting Assignments: Assignments will be turned in via email at sentencesense@gmail.com.

Discussion Area: You are expected to post and respond in the discussion area weekly according to the course calendar.

INTRODUCTION

• Course Objectives • Following completion of this course, you will

be able to: • Identify the clauses (independent and

dependent)• Identify the types of sentences (simple,

compound, complex, and compound-complex)

• Revise run-on and choppy sentences and develop sentences using correct punctuation and appropriate conjunctions

• ELA8C1 The student demonstrates understanding and control of the rules of the English language, realizing that usage involves the appropriate application of conventions and grammar in both written and spoken formats. The student: b. Analyzes and uses simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences correctly, punctuates properly, and avoids fragments and run-ons.

• e. Demonstrates appropriate comma and semicolon usage (compound, complex and compound-complex sentences).

ASSIGNMENTS AND EVALUATION

Detailed descriptions and grading rubrics for each assignment will be provided at the appropriate point during the semester. Be sure to follow the rubric elements carefully as you prepare your assignments.

Each week you will receive a discussion topic. You are expected to make an initial post and respond to the number of students specified in the directions.

For your final assessment, you will write an essay on the topic provided.
