Manchester UniversityScience Center

This three-day, hands-on learning experience will take

you outdoors, as well as into the laboratory, as you

explore the world through the eyes of a scien�st!

Day one, you'll spend on Manchester's campus, where

you'll explore the Eel River ecosystem, examine the

mysteries of chemistry, and learn how human bodies

func�on.

On days two and three, you'll visit the Koinonia

Biological Field Sta�on, 12 miles north of Manchester

University. There, you're explore the sport and science

of fishing in Lake Larrew with a fisheries biologist, and

learn about rocketry, aerospace and engineering

through designing, building and launching bo�le

rockets. You'll learn, too, about birds and how they're

captured and banded for scien�fic research. And you'll

study with a botanist about common plants of the

forest and how they can be used for medicinal purposes

or food.

Learn chess and par�cipate in a tournament!

Dr. Judd Case will teach you the rules, tac�cs, and

strategies of one of the world's oldest, most revered

games. He uses the U.S. Chess Federa�on's official

Think Like a King program for youth, and

emphasizes ac�ve, hands-on learning and good

sportsmanship. By the end of camp, you'll have

sharpened your chess skills and par�cipated in a

real chess tournament. Who knows? You might

even take home your first chess trophy!

Par�cipants will receive t-shirts and snacks will be

provided.

In the LEGO® Robo�cs camp, you’ll build, program

and test real-life robots that move using motors with

rota�on sensors. You’ll brainstorm to find crea�ve

solu�ons, then develop them through selec�ng,

building, tes�ng and evalua�ng. In computer labs,

you’ll capture the robot data, analyze and manipulate

the robot.

Robotics camp

mechanisms and motorized machines, including a

Culinary 101 makes cooking simple and fun! Explore

techniques in a professional kitchen with

Manchester University’s na�onal award winning,

execu�ve chef, Chris Fogerty. During these three

days, you’ll explore grilling and sautéing, using

flavor and color to make a meal amazing, menu

planning, safety in the kitchen and par�cipa�ng in

hands-on work with a variety of foods. Culinary 101

is for students with or without experience in their

kitchen at home.

par�cipate in the Manchester University Camp events, I/we, the parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) of

Par�cipant, hereby release and indemnify Manchester University and its officers, employees and volunteers

from any and all causes of ac�on or claims of any kind for which a release may be legally given (including

a�orneys' fees and costs) which may arise out of my child's par�cipa�on in any ac�vi�es (including travel)

related to the Camp(s).

In the case of an emergency, I/we authorize the Manchester University Camp staff to obtain whatever

medical treatment s/he deems necessary for Par�cipant's welfare. I/we further understand and agree that

I/we will be financially responsible for all charges and fees incurred in the rendering of said emergency

treatment.
