PURPOSE

WATCH

Monday: In Your World: Did you know that parents and their offspring have similar features? Watch video: Why are baby animals so cute? Read about the little bird in this book. Who should his mother be? Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman Tuesday: Read this book about eagles. Eagle Book View Eaglets LIVE and Eaglet LIVE Wednesday: What else can we learn about how parents and their offspring are similar? Animal Babies by Harry McNaught Thursday: Look at these offspring. How are these offspring like their parent? Animal Babies from Kids National Geographic

PRACTICE

Tuesday: Create two columns on a sheet of paper. Label one side PARENT, and the other, OFFSPRING. During and after the video, record features that you notice about the parent and offspring. Wednesday: Play this Matching Game. Then add more information to your two column chart from yesterday. Use information from the book, too. Thursday: Read the Gorilla Book. Add more information to your two column chart from Tuesday.

DISCUSS

Monday: After reading the book, use the questions below to guide your thinking. How do you know that animal is not that baby's mother? What should this baby's mother look like? Is this book fiction or nonfiction? How do you know? Is there any information in this book that is factual? Tuesday: What features are similar in the eagle parent and offspring? What is different? Wednesday: Check out the list of Animal Offspring Names. Which of these names did you know? Which ones were new to you? Which ones are the funniest sounding? How do you think they go with this name?

Thursday: What features are similar in the gorilla parent and offspring? What is different?

PRODUCT

Friday: Think about how parents and their offspring are alike and how they are different. Complete the Parent and Offspring Task 1.
