Why Orangutans Are Becoming Extinct

Companies are cutting down other trees that orangutans need to survive to grow palm oil trees. That is why the orangutans are becoming extinct.

What is the CSPO/RSPO?The RSPO, also known as Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil is a

group of companies that come together to help orangutans and the environment get better. The RSPO is getting different companies to join the “club”. When companies join that means that they are only using sustainable palm oil in their products. Then their products get stamped( or stickered) with the CSPO symbol (see next slide). This

“club” can also be called CSPO which stands for Certified Sustainable Palm Oil.

This is the RSPO (Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil) seal. You hopefully should be seeing this seal on products that are trying to using palm oil the safe way.

What You Can Do To Help

You can help by doing a lot of things. Simple things like spreading the word and buying products that have the CSPO/RSPO symbol

(as shown on slide 4) can make a significant difference to the orangutans in Borneo and

Sumatra. You can also donate to the cans that you have in your classroom (hopefully already

in your classroom).

If you are thinking of trying to help the poor orangutans we are going to be putting in your classroom a can for any and all donations you might be willing to make for the orangutans in Borneo and Sumatra. The donations will be given to the Orangutan

Foundation International which will use this money to care for orangutans that have lost their homes. The classroom that donates the most money gets a cupcake party.
