Using mobile to help domestic violence agencies meet emergency needs

TRANSCRIPT

SAFE NIGHTUsing mobile to help domestic violence organizations meet emergency needs

I have an agenda.

I want you to believe we can use mobile phones to build virtual shelters.

First, some numbers.

All from a single day:

September 15, 2011.

5,363Individuals received

services from domestic violence agencies in

California.

2,822People found emergency

shelter or transitional housing.

924Requests went unmet.

612Of those unmet requests

were for emergency shelter or transitional housing.

Programs were unable to provide services for many reasons:

We believe we can help.

Safe Night will meet emergency needs by

crowdsourcing funding for temporary emergency shelter.

Assisted by technology, community can bridge emergency need and

stable funded services.

We are focused on a single problem within the

larger issue.

612Unmet requests were for

emergency shelter or transitional housing.

But we have another, behind the scenes, goal.

Community Engagement!

Systems integration!

Data!

This a partnership.

We are supported by:

But we still need more help.
