Memory Verse

“Bless the Lord, O My soul”

(Psalm 103:1)

What is a Prophet?• Sometimes, God speaks to His people by

using others.• These people are called prophets.

• The job of the prophets is to tell us what God wants.

Are there Prophets Today?• Yes!!!• Many people today

serve like prophets, but not in the same way as in the Old Testament.

• Can you name people who’s job is to help you know what God wants and to have you follow His will?• In this way, our parents,

priests, and servants act like prophets.

Elijah the Prophet• God chose certain

people before the time of Christ to be prophets.

• Elijah was a good man who always fasted and prayed. He wanted nothing more than to be with God.• Who in the Bible was

said to have the “spirit of Elijah”?• Saint John the

Baptist!

God Sends Elijah• At this time, there was

an evil king named king Ahab, who worshipped a different God than the Lord.

• God told Elijah to go speak with Ahab.

• Elijah is a simple man, wearing simple clothes. He is weak, but Ahab is strong. How can Elijah meet King Ahab without fear?

Elijah’s Message• Those who are with

God should never fear, no matter who is against them.

• Even though King Ahab has the power to throw Elijah into jail, Elijah did not fear him.

• Elijah told King Ahab that if he does not repent, “there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.”

The Drought• King Ahab did not repent, so Elijah’s promise came true.

• A long drought came on the land, and all plants that were living died.

God Provides for Elijah• Because Elijah did

what God wanted him to do, God took care of Elijah.

• While everyone else was thirsty for water and hungry for food, God told Elijah to go to Brook Cherith.

• There, God gave him water from the brook, and he ate bread and meat that he got from the ravens.

What did we Learn?• Even the

impossible is possible with God!• Ravens only feed

themselves. God made these ravens to give food to Elijah.

• We must listen to those who know God.

• Never fear!
