Rugby Blog Planning and Research

Steven Green 11W- IE Award

Introduction

Top Rugby blogs tend to include YouTube videos along with top news and reviews round the world. Undisputedly the top blog in the world is Rugbydump (http://www.rugbydump.com/) whose Facebook page has an impressive 215,777 “likes” and whose twitter account has a more modest 41,004 followers. In my research I looked at what the top 5 are from my perspective and what components each one has and the successes and failures of each as well.

Number 1: RugbydumpRugby Blog Name Nature? Facebook/Twitter

1. RugbyDump Website/Blog Facebook+Twitter

8/10 It is quite generic and doesn’t offer opinions. It is more of a feature website that shows cool things that are happening in rugby games.

4. RugbyLAD Blog Facebook+ Twitter 7/10 This is more of a blog which is something I want my product to be and it has nice blend between text and videos but offers no analysis.

Number 5: IRBRugby Blog Name Nature? Facebook/Twitter

5. IRB Website Facebook + Twitter 5/10 The website itself offers news and videos along with live streams. It also offers limited analysis that is frankly quite poor.

Reflection and Planning

3 Things I should have in my Blog:1. I need to be very opinionated like RugbyLad was.2. It should be a Blog!3. I should have a nice background picture like Rugbydump and others had. 3 Things I shouldn’t have in my Blog:1. I should avoid posting news and stick more to analysis.2. I wont have a Facebook/twitter page as I want my Blog to be more of a Blog than just a publicity stunt.3. I shouldn’t have a motto, they tend to be silly and immature like in other blogs: E.g. Rugbydump: “For men with odd shaped balls”
