IN 2002, LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN PLAYED HIS LOWEST ROUND OF GOLF AT MOSSEL BAY GOLF CLUB – A GROSS 57(15 UNDER PAR).
THIS WAS THE START OF LOUIS’S GOLFING CAREER AND SINCE TURNING PROFESSIONAL IN 2003 HE HAS WON MANY INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENTS INCLUDING THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP AT ST ANDREWSIN 2010.
This fantastic score was the building blocks of his brand, LOUIS57, which started in 2009. The LOUIS57 Group now includes LOUIS57 Wines, LOUIS57 Beer, 57 Travel, LOUIS57 Merchandise Shop, LOUIS57 Foundation, LOUIS57 Online, MATKO57 Golf Course Design and of course, ROUTE57 Restaurant. LOUIS57 Kids With Cancer is a non-profit organisation who distributes donations and funds to help children affected by paediatric cancer. The objective of LOUIS57 Kids With Cancer is not only to assist with the medical cost, but also to help the family come to terms with the situation, bring them together again as a family and provide guidance the way forward. Leolan Academy is a non-profit special school supporting children who have complex needs, including autism & Down syndrome. The Academy is committed to the development of each child’s abilities so that he or she may come to experience life to its full potential.
Ipapa 57 aims to increase concentration, comprehension and academic performance by helping to reduce short-term hunger and improve child nutrition. Ipapa57, that consists of supplying special formulated maize products to children between the ages of 3 – 5, will benefit the children as well as the community and society at large.
In 2009, Louis Oosthuizen founded his Junior Golf Academy (Academy57) in Mossel Bay, looking after young golfers living in the Southern Cape. ACADEMY 57 is based at Pinnacle Point and has a three-tier coaching structure, headed by a PGA Professional couch. The golf programme not only focus on the performance of already talented golfers, but also on the development of Juniors’ golf potential and life skills. ACADEMY57 is the top tier and host annually the top 10 Juniors applying for membership. Currently we have some of the top Juniors in SA, performing on national as well as international level. The second tier (Development Performance Tier) and third tier (Enterprise Development Tier) focus on the identification and development of Juniors with golf potential, as well as on the coaching and mentorship of a Development Coach.
