Defoe creates a moral tale of rewards and punishments.

Punishment for his ‘original sin’- disobeying his father.

As a moral tale:

‘’ had that providence, which so happily had seated me at the Brasils, as a planter, blessed me with confined desired… I could have been… one of the most, considerable planters in the Brasils.’’

Crusoe says:

Rogers has pointed out, the act of disobedience

The ‘original sin’ is actually a condition of capitalist expansion where the individual businessman/ entrepreneur takes

Himself calls enterprising spirit of the colonist, which he thinks, is punished by providence.

Experiences religious illusion. Realizes that God has delivered

him from his earlier sins.

Swept away by a powerful current

Reaching shore.

Assumes the footprints

To investigate

Saves Friday

Teach him some elementary Christian concepts.

Being isolated thus Crusoe is reminded of providence now and then. He repents for his disobedience and thus provides morality to the readers…
