Hi children!We are celebrating at school the Scottish Week!For that reason we are learning lots of things about Robert Burns, the poet.Also, we are going to eat typical Scottish food at the school cantine and to do a lot of activities related to Scotland.Are you ready? Let’s go!

On 25th January we celebrate Robert Burns day. It is a Scottish holiday in which we celebrate his work.

WHO WAS ROBERT BURNS?

I was born

the 25th

January in

Alloway,

Ayrshire, in

Scotland.

He lived in this cottage with his family!

His parents were farmers. Robbie was de oldest of seven children.

His mother introduced him to

Scottish folk songs, legends and proverbs and he began to write poems and songs.

His first book of poems was published on 1788.

Some of Robbie Burns’ most famous song include:

- Ye banks and Breaes of Bonnie Doon, - My Love ‘s Like a Red Red Rose- Auld Lang Syne (the song people sing

at New Years).

Robbie Burns married Jean Armour the

same year that his firts book of

poetry was published.

-They moved to Dumfries, where he rented a farm.- Things didn’t work out with the farm and he sink into a deep depression.- Thoughout his times of depression, he continued to write poetry.

At the age of 37 he died for a rehumatic heart disease, which he had suffered since he was a child.

Of course, they read Robert Burns poems.

But no Robbie Burns' feast would be complete without the typical food for this day: HAGGIS.

Now, we are going to speak about the sport

in Scotland!Do you know any of them?

One of the most popular sports nowadays, golf, was invented in Scotland.

Other sports are also

important in Scotland but, of

course, we can’t forget

their traditional games, the

Scottish Highland Games.

It consists on throwing a big and tall piece of wood.

The competition is decided by who can throw the sphere the farthest.

The tug of war is a sport that directly pits two teams against each other in a test of strength.
