Mid-Residence Review

Studentsmustsuccessfullycompleteamid-residencereviewattheendofthesecondsemester(MFA)orthefourthsemester(BFA).StudentswhoarenotinvitedtocontinueinaprogramasaresultofnotpassingtheirreviewmayhavetheoptionofapplyingtoanotherprogramorschooloftheInstitute,ormay,insomecases,berecommendedfortheIndependentTheaterTrack.Thethirdoptionistopursuetheirstudiesatanotherinstitution.

BachelorofFineArtsdegreecandidatesmustcompleteforty-sixsemesterunitsofCriticalStudiescoursework:CertificateofFineArtscandidatesdonotcompleteCriticalStudiescourses.AllotherrequirementsfortheCertificateofFineArtsareidenticaltothosefortheBFA.CriticalStudiesrequirementsaredetailedintheCriticalStudiessectionoftheCourseCatalog.

Studentsmustcompletetheprogramofstudyapprovedbythementorandthestudent,whichwillincludetherequiredcoursesspecifiedintheSchoolofTheaterCourseRequirementssectionofthisCourseCatalogandcompriseaminimumof120units.

StudentsmustsuccessfullycompleteaMid-ResidenceandaGraduationReview.DetailsregardingreviewproceduresandschedulingareavailableintheTheaterSchoolofficeorfromtheInstituteReviewCoordinator.

Master of Fine Arts and Advanced Certificate of Fine Arts

Studentsmustcompletetheprogramofstudiesapprovedbythementorandthestudent,whichwillincludetherequiredcoursesspecifiedintheSchoolofTheaterCourseRequirementssectionofthisCourseCatalogandcompriseaminimumof60units.

StudentsmustsuccessfullycompleteaMid-ResidenceandaGraduationReview.DetailsregardingreviewproceduresandschedulingareavailableintheTheaterSchoolofficeandfromtheInstituteReviewCoordinator.

Independent Theater Track

Duringastudent’scareerintheSchoolofTheater,ateitherundergraduateorgraduatelevels,mentorsmayrecommendthatastudentmightbeeligiblefortheIndependentTheaterTrack.Thisrecommendationisbasedonthementor’sevaluationofthestudent’swork,strengthsandinterests.Therecommendationisthenforwardedtothefullfacultyforitsapproval.Followingthistrackisanoptionforhighlymotivatedanddisciplinedstudentswhothefacultybelieveswouldbenefitfromabroaderrangeofstudy.Thisisanupperdivisiontrackandacceptanceisbyinvitationonly.Selectionismadepriortothemid-residencereviewforundergraduates,andbeforetheendofthefirstyearforgraduatestudents.Thereisneitherrecruitmentnorauditioningforit.Eachstudent’scurriculumwillbeindividuallydesigned,basedonawrittenproposalandoutlineofcourses.RequirementsforgraduationwithaBFAarefouryearsandaminimumof120units,ofwhich46mustbeinCriticalStudies.Forthethree-yearMFA,aminimumof60unitsisrequired.
