INTRODUCTION

• History: Humanity and Energy• Energy Source in General• Renewable Energy Sources• Energy Use

HISTORY

• BETWEEN 8,000 AND 10,000 YEARS AGO >AGRARIAN COMMUNITIES: FIRE

• AROUND 20 CENTURIES AGO >SAILBOATS, SAILING SHIPS, AND WIND MILL : WIND

HISTORY

• 17th TO 19th CENTURIES>INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION: FOSSIL FUELS

• SINCE 1882 >ELECTRICITY HAS BEEN GENERATED AT CENTRAL STATIONS: WATER

ENERGY SOURCE IN GENERALELECTRICAL GENERATING ENERGY SOURCES

• WIND POWER

• CONCENTRATED SOLAR POWER (CSP)

• GEOTHERMAL POWER

ENERGY SOURCE IN GENERALELECTRICAL GENERATING ENERGY SOURCES

• TIDAL POWER

• SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAICS (PV)

• WAVE POWER

ENERGY SOURCE IN GENERALELECTRICAL GENERATING ENERGY SOURCES

• HYDROELECTRIC POWER

• NUCLEAR POWER

• COAL (EVEN WITH CARBON CAPTURE AND SEQUESTRATION, CCS)

RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE

RENEWABLE ENERGY IS DEFINED AS AN ENERGY

SOURCE/FUEL TYPE THAT CAN REGENERATE AND

CAN REPLENISH ITSELF INDEFINITELY.

RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE

• WIND POWER

• SOLAR ENERGY

• GEOTERMAL ENERGY

• HYDROELETRIC POWER

• BIOMASS

• GAS NATURAL*

• NUCLEAR ENERGY*

ELECTRICAL ENERGY USED IN THE WORLD

ELECTRICAL ENERGY USE

THE WRONG USE OF NATURAL RESOURCES BRINGS CONSEQUENCES

• GREEN HOUSE EFFECT

• AIR POLLUTION

• GLOBAL WARMING

• WATER CONTAMINATION

ONE STEP AHEAD

The word is changing. Who uses the new and better way to improve the life in the world, will certainly be more successful than who does not try to adapt at world changes.

CONCLUSION

Nowadays, electrical energy use is a human necessity. The way how this energy is generated needs to be analyzed because every natural resource that is not renewable can finish a day.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1) Is it important to invest in renewables energy sources? Why or why not?

2) What is the principal electrical energy source in your country?

3) Does your country have problems related with electrical energy?
