100 Eligible For Juvenile Batavia Stake

BATAVIA, Jan. 10—One hun­dred junior standardbreds remain eligible for the Batavia Downs Juvenile Stake following a Janu­ary 1 payment of $50.

The three-year-old pace and trot, worth an estimated $20,000, will be raced during Batavia's July 29-November 2 meet. The exact date will be announced later.

Del MUler, Billy Hau&rhton. Joe O'Brien, John Simpson and Levi Harner are among; the 67 owners and top racinr stables represented. Prominent area entries of two

or more horses came from Eliza­beth R. Wehle of Scottsville, John Beck of East Aurora, Dr. F. A. Huber of Williamsville. John D. Robinson of Albion and Rowcliffe & Gillard of Elba. .

Eligibles include Great Adios and Dolph Hanover, winners of last season's two-year-old pace and trot divisions of the rich stake, and Duke of Wellington, which set a 2:07 pace record at the Downs last year.

ST. CATHARINES. Ont.. Jan. 10—The newest addition to St. Catharines General Hospital, an 81-room nurses residence, will be named the "Arthur A. Schmon Nurses Residence."

Schmon is chairman of the board of governors of the hos­pital. He has held the post since 1952. He is president and gen­eral manager of the Ontario Pa­per Co. The $500,000 building will be officially opened Sunday,,

Born in Bus-seto, Italy, Aug. 30, 1881, he was ordained into the priesthood Sept. 23, 1905, at Siden-za, Italy* On Nov. 10, 1910, he be­

came a menifeer of the Pious So­ciety of St. Charles, at Piacenza, Italy. f

Father ViinoH was appointed an assistant! pastor at St. An­thony's Church, Buffalo, in 1911. Four years later he was trans­ferred as assistant pastor at St. Anthony's Clurch, Fredonia.

He returned to Buffalo as pas­tor of St. ABthony's in 1919 and served there; until 1925, when he became pastor of St. Joachim's Church in J»w York City.

He was paitor of Sacred Heart Church at Boston, Mass., from 1935 until 1#I9, when he became chaplain of fhe hospital in Chi­cago.

Self-Styled Hunter Is Armed for Bear

MILWAUKEE. Jan. 10 (UP)— Judge Robert Hansen didn't be­lieve the tale of a bear hunter and fined him $100 for carrying concealed weapons.

Louis Bratton, 30, Godfrey, III., was arrested with a .45 cali­ber automatic pistol and two rifles in his possession. He told the judge he had heard about good bear hunting in northern Wisconsin and wanted to bag one of the large animals.
