THROUGH THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATON

• Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the faithful obtain pardon for their sins, while they are at the same time reconciled with the Church they wounded by their sins. It also works for their conversion by charity, example, and prayer.

Other Names

• Sacrament of Conversion- it signifies Jesus’ call for sinners to go back to God.

Metanoia- change of heart

• Confession- we disclose or confess our sins to the priest, the representative of Christ

Confessing or acknowledging our sins before God is required before we even ask Him for forgiveness.

• Penance- shown when we sincerely acknowledge our sins and we are sorry for them.

- manifested in our desire not to go back to the sinful life we used to lead

In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we obtain forgiveness from God when we confess our sins, express sincere sorrow for them and resolve not to repeat them.

Three Essential Parts of the Sacrament of Reconciliation

1.Contrition- sincere sorrow or regret for the sins we have committed accompanied by a strong resolution not to sin again.

Examining our conscience- reaching and searching deep in our souls in order to recall our sins.

2. Confession- the disclosure or telling of our sins to the priest

Act of contrition- made after confession, which is an outward prayer in front of the priest that expresses our internal sorrow for our sins.

3. Satisfaction- act of making reparations for the damages caused by our sins.
