The Rainha Santa Feasts are known as the most genuine manifestation of the
City’s veneration for its patron Santa Isabel.King D. Dinis’s wife became famous for her great kindness, helping poor people
and treating patients.However, the king didn’t like her attitude and forbade her to go on helping
(doing good deeds). One day, he saw her wife going out of the palace and asked what she was taking beneath the mantle.
It was bread, but she answered:- Roses! - Roses in January?! - he doubted. Eyes down, Queen Santa Isabel opened the mantle - and the bread had turned
into roses….
