Registra on Con nuing Educa on has an open registra on policy. This means that an individual may register for a course ANYTIME prior to the first day of class. PLEASE NOTE: classes without sufficient enrollment will be canceled two days prior to the start of the class, so REGISTER EARLY! Medical Billing and Coding is a rapidly growing industry! Health care facili es are having trouble a rac ng enough qualified workers. The Medical Billing and Coding program at Kennedy‐King College prepares students to fill posi‐
ons as medical coding and billing pro‐fessionals. Upon successful comple on of the Medical Billing and Coding course,
students will be prepared for an entry‐level posi on doing medical billing or coding in a medical office se ng and will be prepared to sit for the Cer fied Coding Associate na onal cer fica on exam. Medical coders maintain pa ents' rec‐ords using a universally recognized cod‐ing system (ICD‐9 index) to ensure com‐pliance with federal regula ons and insurance requirements. Medical billing is a subspecialty of medical coding. Alt‐hough there are programs that offer medical billing training by itself, you should consider a program that com‐bines both billing and coding in one training program, since medical coding is the first step in the medical billing pro‐cess. Kennedy‐King College offers both! The American Academy of Professional Coders reports that coders earn in the range of $36,085 to $40,000. Medical Billing Specialists average $30,000 per year. PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN
*WIA Approved* (Fall 2012) Phlebotomists obtain blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. This cer‐ficate program teaches students the
comprehensive skills needed to be able to perform vein puncture competently and safely. Lecture will include Medical Ter‐
minology, Anatomy & Physiology, blood collec on procedures, communica on skills and professionalism. Students will have hands‐on laboratory prac ce ses‐sions as well as clinical training to acquire the skills necessary to perform the required puncture methods. This course is WIA‐ approved. Student must take an Entrance Exam. This course Consists of 90 classroom hours and 70 clinical hours.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELING This class will equip the student with the tools and knowledge needed to pro‐vide appropriate assessment and treat‐ment for all levels of substance abuse, and to support clients in short or long term treatment. The lecturer will pro‐vide the student with a understanding of the addic on process, and how to coun‐sel clients with this problem.
