Statement of PurposeThe Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education is an association of higher education professionals dedicated to enhancing teaching and learning by supporting educational developers and leaders in higher education.

Mission StatementThe Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education encourages the advocacy of the on-going enhancement of teaching and learning through faculty and organizational development. To this end it supports the work of educational developers and champions their importance to the academic enterprise.

Vision StatementDuring the 21st century, the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education will expand guidelines for educational development, build strong alliances with sister organizations, and encourage developer exchanges and research projects to improve teaching and learning.

The POD Network is committed to: personal, professional, instructional, and organizational

development humane and collaborative organizations and administrations diverse perspectives and a diverse membership supportive educational development networks on the local,

regional, national, and international levels advocacy for improved teaching and learning in the academy

through programs for faculty, administrators, and graduate students the identification and collection of a strong and accessible body

of research on development theories and practices the establishment of guidelines for ethical practice the increasingly useful and thorough assessment and evaluation

Faculty Development Programs◦ focus on the individual faculty member.

Instructional Development Programs◦ focus on the the improvement of the institution

including the course, the curriculum and student learning.

Organizational Development Programs◦ Focus on the organizational structure of the

institution and its sub components.

Faculty member as a teacher. ◦ Programs should focus on:

teaching, including class organization, evaluation of students, in-class presentation skills, questioning and all aspects of design and presentation, teacher/student interaction, such as advising, tutoring, discipline policies and administration.

Faculty member as a scholar and professional. Programs should focus on:

career planning, professional development in scholarly skills such as grant writing, publishing, committee work, administrative work, supervisory skills, and a wide range of other activities expected of faculty.

Faculty member as a person. Programs should focus on:

wellness management, interpersonal skills, stress and time management, assertiveness development and a host of other programs which address the individual's well-being.
