Primacord®detonatingcord,exceptforDetacord®,whendetonatedhastheinitiatingenergyofablastingcapatallpointsalongitsentirelength.ThePrimacord®detonatingcorddetonatesataspeedofapproximately7000m/s.Primacord®trunklineswillinitiateanynumberofadditionallengths,extensionsorbranchlinesthroughcorrectlytiedconnectionsorknots.Whenusedasadownline,theexplosivesuppliershouldbeconsultedastothesensitivityandcompatibilityofcordandexplosivesused.

Primacord®detonatingcordissimpleindesignanduse.Thehighexplosivecoreisencasedinvariousprotectivecoveringsdevelopedtowithstandthemanyconditionsencounteredinthefi eld.ThedifferencebetweenthestandardtypesofPrimacord®detonatingcordisessentiallythecoreloadcoupledwithadifferenceinthedegreeofprotectionaffordedbytheencasements.VariouscombinationsofmaterialssuchastextilesandplasticscovertherawPETN(PentaerythritolTetranitrate)core.Thetextilesusedprovidetensilestrengthandfl exibility,aswellasresistancetoabrasionandcutting,extremesofheatandcoldorwaterandoilpenetration.

Detacord®detonatingcordwilldetonatethroughstandardknotsandwillinitiateotherdetonatingcords.Mostcapsensitiveexplosives,detonatingrelaysandcastboostersareinsufficientlysensitivetobeinitiatedbyDetacord®.Confirmationofcompatibilityshouldbeobtainedfromthemanufacturer.Detacord®detonatingcordisflexible,easytohandle,readilytiesandholdsknots.Detacord®iscommonlyusedforsurface,quarrying,constructionorundergroundblastingapplications.Detacord®canalsobeusedassurfacetrunklinesorlead-in-lineswhenusedinconjunctionwithshocktubePrimadet®accessories.

E-cord®

E-cord®isflexibleandeasytohandlewhichreadilytiesandholdsknots.E-cord®detonatingcordiscommonlyusedasasurfacetrunkline,lead-in-lineanddownline.E-cord®detonatingcordwilldetonatethroughstandardknotsandwillinitiateotherdetonatingcords.

E-cord®isnotrecommendedforundergrounduseorapplications.

Inallapplications,somecastboosterscannotbereliablyinitiatedbyE-cord®detonatingcord.ThemanufactureroftheboostershouldbeconsultedbeforeusingE-cord®detonatingcordinthismanner.

SB cord TM

SBcordTMisdesignedforsecondaryblasting.SBcordTMdoesnotexhibitthetensileandabrasiveresistantpropertiesoftheotherPrimacord®detonatingcordsduetotheexclusionoftheouterlayersofprotectiveyarnsandwax.SBcordTMiscompatiblewithallcapsensitiveproductsandcanbeusedwithdetonatingrelays.SBcordTMdetonatingcordwilldetonatethroughstandardknotsandwillinitiateotherdetonatingcords.

SBcordTMisnotrecommendedforundergrounduseorapplications.

Zapcord™

Zapcord™detonatingcordpossessesallthehandlingandreliabilityadvantagesoftheotherPrimacord®detonatingcords.Zapcord™isrecommendedtobeusedastrunklinesanddownlinesinseveresurfaceorundergroundblastingapplications.Itismostcommonlyusedasadownlinewherecontinuitythroughoutthecolumnistobeensured.

Zapcord™ 40

Zapcord™40detonatingcordpossessesallthehandlingandreliabilityadvantagesoftheotherPrimacord®detonatingcords.Itisrecommendedforuseasdownlinesinsevereblastingapplications.Itismostcommonlyusedfordemolitionwork,trimblasting,pre-splittingandlandmineclearance.

• Itisalsoveryimportantthatall“branchline”connectionsarekeptatrightangles(fi gurethree).

• MakesurethatallPrimacord®detonatingcordlinesaredevoidofloopsandkinksandpreventlinescrossingovereachother(fi gurefour).

• Onlyasharpknifeshouldbeusedtocutcordandneverusea‘scissor-type’cuttingdevice.

• Withundergroundorsmallapplications,itisrecommendedto‘ring-feed’toavoidpossiblemisfi res(fi gurefi ve).

• Avoidanyacuteangles(fi guresix).

• InitiationofthePrimacord®detonatingcordmaybedoneusinganInstantaneousElectricDetonator(IED) (fi guresseven&eight).
