Overall Objectives
1. To broaden the awareness and understanding of the African American prostate cancer epidemic
2. To increase the awareness of PHEN education and awareness resources
3. To establish a continuous and ongoing working relationship with the churches for education and awareness outreach to their members
PHEN invited church Pastors to a dinner to gain their commitment
Presented an overview of RAP Cancer
Showed PHEN TV clips
Pastors and other church representatives were enthusiastic
1. Participate with PHEN in radio broadcasts and other media events leading up to Father’s Day
2. Distribute information to its members on the first and second Sundays of June, note their church’s participation in its church bulletin, and announce that members should wear something blue in recognition of prostate cancer awareness on Father’s Day
3. Distribute information provided by PHEN on Father’s Day. Recognize prostate cancer survivors and family members, and offer a special prayer for them
A card with information about the African American prostate cancer epidemic
Information about PHEN “Rally Against Prostate Cancer” (RAP CANCER) education and awareness resources and how this information can be accessed and used by members
Information on PHEN support group meetings with a schedule
