Presenter Name: Laoise Kelly
Job title: Principal Date: 16th September 2019
Cambridge Pathway
How do students benefit from the Cambridge Pathway?
Cambridge helps us to prepare students
for life – helping them to develop an
informed curiosity and lasting passion for
learning.
Cambridge has design programmes that
stretch, challenge and inspire students of
all abilities.
The programmes help students to
develop deep subject knowledge,
conceptual understanding and higher
order thinking skills.
Cambridge qualifications are widely
recognised by universities and
employers around the world. Image: the circuitry of a motherboard
What do our students study?
Cambridge offers a wide range of
subjects
Over 70 Cambridge IGCSEs
Over 50 Cambridge International AS & A
Levels
Students can choose the subjects
they love and are best at.
We design programmes to
challenge students, and get them
excited about what they’re learning.
Flexible programmes enable
teachers to use examples from local
contexts and cultures.

How does a Cambridge programme work?
The Cambridge Pathway leads
seamlessly from primary through to
secondary and pre-university years, for
5 to 19 year olds.
They take students on a journey
through:
Cambridge Primary
Cambridge Lower Secondary
Cambridge Upper Secondary
Cambridge International AS & A
Level.
Students can join at any stage.
How does a Cambridge programme work?
When designing programmes, Cambridge
starts by identifying what a student needs to
learn.
Students have to demonstrate
understanding and the core knowledge of a
subject.
Exams are there to recognise, reward and
encourage learning.
Flexible assessment structures maximises
time for teaching and learning.
How are Cambridge students prepared for the future?
Cambridge Pathway gives students
the skills they need for life.
Students develop higher order
thinking skills to apply what they’ve
learned including:
solving problems creatively
thinking for themselves
doing their own research and
communicating it
working with other people on a
project they’ve designed
together.
How do Cambridge programmes help students applying for university?
Cambridge qualifications are
accepted and valued by
employers and universities
around the world, including
MIT, Harvard, Oxford and
Cambridge.
They are recognised as
qualifications that prepare
and equip students with the
skills they need to succeed
both at university and
beyond.
How do Cambridge programmes help students applying for university?
Universities value the
independent research, critical
thinking skills and the deep
subject knowledge that our
qualifications bring.
Cambridge works with these
universities when revising
qualifications – getting expert
advice to make sure preparing
students to succeed at
university and beyond.
Cambridge students are very well-
prepared for our curriculum and we find
that they have a lot of confidence, but also
that they have good deep subject
knowledge, and the ability to think
critically.

Introduction to the Cambridge Approach
The Cambridge approach to teaching and learning
is a collaboration between the teachers and the
learners.
1. The role of the teachers is to plan and deliver
exciting and interesting lessons.
2. The role of the learner is to engage, to ask
questions, to apply existing knowledge and to
develop new ideas, skills and strategies.
• This cycle of planning, teaching,
consolidation, feedback and
assessment describes all of the
work that the teachers do in the
classroom at our school.
The Cambridge approach is cyclical.

• Assessment is central
to our teaching, both
formative and
summative.
• Assessment helps
teachers to plan for the
next steps in learning.
Assessment
1. Day to day – quizzes , teacher

Checkers
3. Primary Check Point
Learning Ladders
Learning Ladders is an ongoing assessment tool.
Teachers use this each week to track children's progress.
This helps teachers to record what information the
children have learned and what information the children
need to know.
This assists with revision and planning future lessons.
Termly reports are based upon the children's ongoing
progress records on Learning Ladders and the test results
at the end of each term.
Creative Curriculum
At Cardiff International School we offer a
creative curriculum.
Problem Solving
Group Work
Projects
Fun methods to grab the children's
attention
At Cardiff International School…
We aim to create an atmosphere
of trust in our classrooms when
students and teachers feel valued
and respected.
This helps our students to be
motivated to continue and
improve.
Self Assessment
1. With teacher feedback we aim for the students to
become more reflective so they will begin to self assess.
2. A reflective learner will be one that is anxious to improve
and to do better every time.
3. This will help our students to become more:
CONFIDENT REFLECTIVE
INNOVATIVE ENGAGED

new work to challenge the students.
Contact your child’s teacher if you are not

them see you read.
Studies show that the
amount of time spent
reading is directly linked to
the students academic
scores.
Guided Reading – Key Stage 2
This takes place each morning form 7.30 to 8am.
This is a chance for your child to practice their
reading in a structured manner with their teacher.
The children are exposed to a wide variety of
books and texts with activities based upon these.
Please ensure that your child arrives on time
every day.
Guided Reading – Key Stage 1
In Key Stage 1 we follow the
Cambridge curriculum for
phonics.
We support this with the
Jolly Phonics programme.
This is taught and
rehearsed each morning.
