BasicsWhat does fire safety and management means ?

•What is Fire? The rapid oxidation of a material in the exothermic chemical process of combustion, releasing heat, light, and various reaction products.

•What is Safety? The condition of being protected from or unlikely to cause danger, risk, or injury.

•What is Management?Management is an academic discipline, a social science whose objective is to study social organization

Safety Triangle

• The fire triangle or combustion triangle is a simple model for understanding the necessary ingredients for most fires.

• The triangle illustrates the three elements a fire needs to ignite: heat, fuel, and an oxidizing agent (usually oxygen). A fire naturally occurs when the elements are present and combined in the right mixture, meaning that fire is actually an event rather than a thing. A fire can be prevented or extinguished by removing any one of the elements in the fire triangle. For example, covering a fire with a fire blanket removes the oxygen part of the triangle and can extinguish a fire.

Phases of Emergency Management

• Prevention - MitigationPrevention - Mitigation: Identifying all potential hazards and vulnerabilities, and reducing the potential damage they can cause.

• PreparednessPreparedness: Collaborating with community partners to develop plans and protocols to prepare for the possibility that the identified hazards, vulnerabilities, or emergencies will occur.

• ResponseResponse: Working closely with first responders and community partners to effectively contain and resolve an emergency in or around a vicinity.

• RecoveryRecovery: Teaming with community partners to assist employees and staff in the healing process and restoring a healthy and safe learning environment following an emergency event.
