Implementation• Before fertilization the sperm and egg are two separate cells.

• Each contain half of the information for the development of a new person

Implementation Cont.• After Ejaculation it takes

sperm 15 min. to 1 hour to reach the fallopian tube.

• Egg then divides into two cells

• 30 hours after fertilization the egg divides itself over and over (2 to 4, 4 to 8, etc)

• Four days later the egg will reach the uterus.

Embryonic development

Embryo

• Fertilized egg lays to rest on the lining of the uterus.

• By the 10th day the embryo contains thousands of cells and is completely buried in the uterine wall.

• Implementation is now complete

The placenta

• Disk shaped organ that is attached to the inside wall of the uterus.

• Connected by the umbilical cord.

• Provides nutrients and everything needed from the mother.

The baby’s lifeline

• Pools of blood are formed in the placenta which bathe the outside of the embryos blood vessels. (the mothers blood does not flow into the baby.)

• Viruses and drugs can pass from mothers blood to babys blood.

For this reason…..

• Pregnant women should refrain from using drugs, drinking alcohol and smoking.

• TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH!

shape.• Small buds on side of body

become arms and legs.• Internal organs begin to

develop (lungs, stomach, and liver.

• From the ninth week until birth the embryo is now called the fetus.

Pregnancy Test

• Detects hormone called HCG Human chorionic gonadotropin

• After three weeks HCG will be detected by a pregnancy test.

• Always perform two tests whether result is positive or negative.

• If positive, see a doctor.
