All of these have a meaning of their own.

Put together, they make something new.

Root WordsAll words start out with a root word.

This is the basic part of the word.

Root words are helpful for learning both the meaning and the spelling of a word.

Suffixes and prefixes can be joined to root words in order to make new words.

If we can identify the main part of a word, we can then usually identify both the prefix and the suffix if they are there.
