learn how to use it accurately.

(Focus on meaning and

appropriacy)

Class aims

1. Hey man, how’s it going? My

weekend was awesome. What did

you get up to?

2. Good afternoon. How are you today?

I had a pleasant weekend. How

about you?

Appropriacy

1.To facilitate a productive class

environment.

2.To provide lessons and materials that

are useful and engaging.

3.To offer feedback and advice on your

spoken and written English.

My Role

You can lead a horse to water but you

can’t make it drink

Your Role

With your partner, spend 2

minutes discussing your role

in the class.

Your Role

1. To come to every lesson prepared.

2. Be responsible for your studies.

3. To have clear goals and work

towards them.

4. To complete all of your work in and

out of class.

Your Role

• Speaking: it’s difficult to have a

conversation alone (Unless you are

crazy)

• Writing: most students need a lot of

practice in this area

Our main focus in class

We will also practice these areas in class, BUT…

• It’s much easier to work on these skills

alone, so most of your practice should

be at home.

• We will focus on repeating a small

number of the most useful techniques.

What about reading and listening?

• In class, we introduce you to IELTS

information and techniques.

• You will need to practice everything

many, many times at home to really

learn.

Repeat, repeat, repeat…

What will you learn in class?

How we teach:

• No lectures

• Lots of pair work

• Feedback to improve performance

• Plenty of repetition

If you miss a class:

• At the beginning of the next lesson, ask

your teacher for the materials.

• Discuss what you missed with your partner

for five minutes.

• If you know you will be absent in advance,

tell your teacher – in person or by email.

Can I move up to the next level?

Your teacher will decide based on:

• Your attendance and punctuality

• Your participation (including doing homework)

and attitude

• Your progress over the course, including your

response to feedback

• Your exam scores at the end of the course

End of class feedback

At the end of the course, we will ask

for your feedback on your experience

at KTDC.

This helps us to improve.

BUT…

Have a problem? Not happy?

If you’re having a problem, if you

don’t understand something, or if

you’re not happy about something:

Talk to your teacher straight away!

Name cards:

Why do we use name cards.

1. Learn your names. (Your teacher

has a terrible memory for

names!)

2. See who is absent.

3. Seat you next to a random partner.
