Lesson Objectives

The purpose of the lesson was to enhance the student’s understanding of the particular Guided Reading text, that of bridges.

The state core curriculum basis for this particular lesson is: Standard #7, Objective 3 Recognize and use features of narrative and informational text; d. Locate facts from informational texts

Through the usage of technology, students would be able to make more realistic and personal connections to the information presented in their reading.

Using Technology In the ClassroomLimited Technology available in the classroom

My own personal computer was used for the technological experience

Before the Power Point

Students had previously read the text, they reviewed it once again to support Literacy techniques and reading abilities.

A review was provided to students and a preparatory speech provided concerning the presence of the technology.

What Went Well

Student involvement was unique and students appeared to be enthused

The lesson was enhanced, not formatted to the presence of the technology

Students were able to connect their understanding to the real world through a game-like activity

What Could Be Improved and What I Would Change In the Future

Pace of the Power Point

Students’ personal involvement and interaction with the technology

Accessibility of viewing to all students

More technology incorporated in lessons, even if it must be through direct teacher usage

Four Principles of Effective Technology IntegrationStudent Use of Technology

Technology Use is Essential

Focus on Learning Task

Added Value

Student Use of TechnologyThe students’ interaction mostly revolved around

the prompting of the presentation. Although the experience was directly handled by myself, the learning was put into the hands of the students.

Essentials of TechnologyThe technology used in this lesson was a method of

involving students in an active learning process. It provided a simpler method to check and assess understanding and brought an essential enthusiasm for the learning process and educational topic.

Focus is on the Learning Task

The task of using the technology was rather simple due to my direct involvement in operating the program. This involvement was directly tied to the students’ lack in technological education. This form of technology was a correct form to use with these students because it focused directly on identifying the information provided in their books and did not detract from the objective of the lesson. Students moved effectively through the instruction and were able to accurately reproduce their understanding.

Added Value

This particular form of assessment would have been more difficult to perform without the technology. The Power Point was quick in moving through the information and encouraging students to move quickly as well. Without this form of technology, I would have had to create a lengthy worksheet of some nature that would have caused more frustration for students than necessary.
