POVERTY

Poverty means???

Poverty is the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money.

Lack of basic human needs such as food,water,shelter,sanitation,education,healthcare.

TYPES OF POVERTY

RELATIVE POVERTY

ABSOLUTE POVERTY

Relative poverty:

Relative poverty refers to the standard that is defined in terms of society in which an individual lives and therefore differs between countries and over time.

Absolute poverty:Absolute poverty is

a level of poverty as defined in terms of the minimal requirements.

That is extreme poverty……

It is defined as the absence of enough resources to secure basic life needs.

For example, a person who lives in a home with a mud floor is considered severely deprived of shelter. Person who never attended school and cannot read is considered severely deprived of education. A person who has no newspaper,radio,television is considered severely deprived of information. All people who meet any two of these conditions are the people in ABSOLUTE POVERTY.

Causes of poverty Rapid rising population:

The population during last 45 years has increased at the rate of 2.2%per annum.on average 17 million peoples are added every year which raises the demand for consumption goods.

Low productivity in agriculture:

The level of productivity in agriculture is low due to subdivided and fragmented holdings, lack of capital, use of traditional methods of cultivation. This is the main cause of poverty in the country.

Low rate of economic development:

The rate of economic development in India has been below the required level.Therefore,there persists a gap between level of availability and requirements of goods and services. The net result is poverty.

Unemployment:

The continuously expanding army of unemployed is another cause of poverty.The job seeker is increasing in number at higher rate than the employment opportunities

Political factors:

Due to politicians the country get corrupted because poverty is the mass destruction of people. They enjoy the luxury life by making black money and making the country to get debt from other countries. Due to this the above things happens.

Effects of povertySOCIAL:

oHigh infant mortality and annual death rate.

oIncrease in hygiene and diet related disease

oIncreased crime rateoIncreased rate of homeless people.

Political:

o Increased risk of war:

Nations that are unable to keep up with world economy,Lack raw materials and markets to do so may turn to war in a bid to obtain new markets for its goods.

Terrorism

oPoverty too major factor in explaining the spike in terrorism in recent years.

oAnalyst have been able to point out that politically and economically weak nations often fall prey to terrorism ie,afganistan,iraq,etc.

Corruptiono Corruption also leads to poverty.

This is also a main factor. Because of politicians care about their own family not caring about the people. This leads to price rises, crime rises, poverty also rises. The sufferers are ultimately the poor people.

Poverty in India

Solution to reduce povertyReduce the high costs of being poor and increase the agriculture lands.

Education to all the children.
