The Workis aimed at reproducing a 2D and 3D model of an existing historical building. We chose the Gymna-sium of the Botanical garden of Palermo and evaluated it by using diastimeters, meters, staids and tri-lateration method. For the dome we had to use original drawing as a reference for proportions and measures.

The Projectis the requalification of an area in Palermo, near the Notarbartolo’s station. Starting from the analysis of the area, defining the building consistence, historical landmarks, green areas and the services that take place there, we worked on weakness points developing the mobility system and creating gre-en areas.

We examined in depth the area of the Notarbartolo Station and figured out how will it be after the current works for the new tram line. This station will be a crucial point because of the mobility inter-change and our project’s focus is to figure out a new building, connected with the previous one by a translucent, light, glazed bridge. This building will host retails and a cafeteria.

The Projectis the demolition and recon-struction of an existing building considering all legal constraints.The task is to define architecture and technological aspects of a building with an auditorium, ser-vices, classrooms, cafeteria, in-ternet point and creative spaces.

The Projectis the retrofit of an existing abando-ned building in the “Sperone” di-strict, in Palermo. This building used to be a squat, and it is now in bad conditions. Our task is to transform it into a center for education of chil-dren from 7 to 14 years old. There-fore, we provide it with a cafeteria, internet points, classrooms and cre-ative labs.

tHow it worksThis building is designed in order to take the maximum advanta-ge from the weather conditions in the South of Italy. According to its position, a solar greenhouse has been designed in the south-side. During the winter heat is accu-mulated and extracted. After tre-atments it is then let into the ra-diant panels to warm classrooms. During the summer mamually-con-trolled windows ensure cross venti-lation and openings on the top of the solar chimney generate a flow of fresh air.

The Projectis a self-powered bus shelter com-posed of two translucent panels made of glassclocks integrated with DSC (Dye Sensitized Solar Cel-ls). The structure is made of HEA 140 and includes a space for advertise-ment, a dynamic screen made of rampicant plants, two smart ben-ches with sensors, Wi-Fi point and an information display. It was also realized a PLA model through 3D printing.

The product

DSSC glassblocks are intel-lectual property of the startup SBskin, which has developed a new product with a low transmittance level and able to produce clean energy from the sun.

F.E.M. Analysis

F.E.M. analysis was conducted by using the software Straus 7. Then results were verified through the software FATA.
