Music Licensing 101

• What is it? • Two types of licenses:

1. Master License

2. Sync License• These licenses cover specific MEDIA, TERM, USAGE of song, TERRITORY, and FEE.

Why do it?1. Easier for Music Supervisors to find and acquire

2. Easier for OurStage to pitch

3. Better prepares your music for placement opps

Making Your Music “Licensing Friendly”

What it entails:1. Uploading tracks in the correct format with the right info

2. Providing song ownership info

3. Providing publishing info

Making Your Music “Licensing Friendly”

Song information can be submitted here while uploading tracks

Song lyrics should be submitted here while uploading tracks

Step #1: The Correct File Formats

When uploading your songs OurStage, be sure to include:1. WAV files of each song

2. WAV files of instrumental versions of each song (if you have it)

3. WAV files of clean edits of any song that has explicit lyrics

4. Lyrics to the tracks 

Step #2: Providing Ownership Info

When uploading your tracks, please include info regarding:

1. Who owns the master track

2. Names of others who may have paid for the recording

3. Names of vocalists, musicians or producers who weren’t paid to create the track

4. Any current or past involvement with other labels

5. Inclusion of samples from pre-existing music 

Step #3: Providing Publishing Info

When uploading your tracks, please include info regarding:

1. Who owns the publishing on each track

2. If your songs have been previously published.

3. Names of any other songwriters

4. If the songs have been registered with a Performance Rights Organization (PRO).
