PLAI President, Mrs. Susima L.Gonzales inducted the first set of PLAI-STRLC Board of Directors and Provincial Coordinators on January 17, 2006 held at the PLAI Headquarters in The National Library, at Kalaw St., Ermita, Manila. Induction of other officers who were not present during the January induction was inducted by PLAI-STRLC BOD Chair, Mrs Lourdes V. Soriano during the second PLAI-STRLC meeting, February 21, 2006, at the same venue.

The Cavite Librarians Association (CLASS) in coordination with the PLAI-Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council is organizing a National Summer Conference on Library Management in a Changing Environment to be held at the prestigious Tagaytay Country Hotel, on May 3-5, 2006. The national conference will concentrate on management issues associated with providing library and information services in the changing environment. It aims for the development of competent, knowledgeable and skillful library managers or information service providers. In addition, it attempts to address issues related to library management in a collaborative and supportive fashion. The topics include: Management of Libraries and Information Centers in a Technology-Driven World; Public Relations: Library Publicity and User-Oriented Services; Book Talk; From Print to Action: Using Books to Spur Discussion; Collaboration in Resource Sharing Among Libraries; Electronic / Online Resources: E-Books and Open Access Directory Databases; Automating Libraries & Information Centers; and Updates on Philippine Libraries and Librarianship. The conference fees are as follows: PhP 3300.00 for Live-out (to include lunches/snacks, conference kits and certificate) PhP 3800.00 for Live-in (to include hotel accommodation, with breakfast/dinner, in addition to seminar meals).

Two (2) early registrants can avail a discount of PhP200.00 if you pay on/before April 18, 2006.

R. Ramachandran began his career as a librarian in Singapore in 1969 and served as Education Officer; Head of Branch Library; Head of Technical Services; Deputy Director of Reference and Support Services; Director, National Library; Deputy Chief Executive, National Library Board; Secretary General, CONSAL; and Secretary General, IFLA. He retired in 2004, and is currently the Executive Director of the National Book Development Council of Singapore.

In 1996, he was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) for his outstanding contribution to library development in Singapore. In 2001, he received the Outstanding Community Service Award from the President of Singapore.
