Picasso Masks

Using our mask designs from last session…

• These are the images that have inspired me this week

Choose your favourite mask design

We’ll need –

• Our mask design

• Paper

• Pencils

• Markers

• Scissors

• Sticky tape

• A stick

Mask Option 1.I think I’ll use this design for a paper mask

I’ve drawn a different shape for the head and added some weird & wacky details.Then I’ve copied thedesign inside the face.

Next, I’ve gone over my lines with a black marker to make them ‘POP’!

Then I’ve copied theColours from the design.

Then continue adding careful colours.

Once you finish adding colour, you might like to add some details with a black marker like these.

The last step is to cut your mask out and to use some tape stick your work to whatever you have handy – I’m using a paint brush. You could use a stick from the garden or a wooden spoon from the kitchen!

Finished!Doesn’t this masklook GREAT?It’s amazing what you can create from some clever designs.

Mask Option 2A Challenge!

If you have some extra art & craft materials are home you might prefer to create a mask like this one.

You’ll need –• Cardboard• Markers or paint• Scissors• Glue• Tape • Stick• Art & craft stuff you may

have around the house

First start by drawing the shapes you need. An adult may need to help you cut –cardboard is tricky.

When all your pieces are cut out place them together – It’s kind of like doing a jig-saw puzzle!Don’t use any glue yet.Check your design to make sure you’re following your ideas. Of course you can change your ideas as you go –artists do that all the time!

Now all my portrait pieces are cut out & in position.I’m really happy with how it’slooks, I’ve got all the detailsincluding the tongue pokingout!

If you have paint & Mum & Dad are okay with you using it then you can add colour.You can try using textas or pencils but it is difficult withcardboard.

• Layout your pieces andcarefully paint them

• Leave them to dry beforeyou do the next step

Put all your pieces back into place and use glue to stick them down.

You might want to add hair toyour design.I’m using what I have handy –plastic spoons & paper straws!!!

Make sure you stick them well to the back of your mask.As you can see, I needed lotsof tape!

At this stage add a stick so you can hold your mask (sorry I forgot to photograph this step!)
