DESCRIPTION

PeleStation Exhibition features the life of the soccer legend Pele\'. A Three million Euros multimedia presentation of his best moments where the expectator sees himself in a virtual stadium.

the pitch and the special moments in his life. People will learn more than ever about the “World's Athlete of the Century”. A real

experience that will fascinate not only soccer-fans from all nationalities, but everyone that visits the exhibition.

Pelé is the most recognized face in the world, although the under-forties have

never seen him play live. PELÉ STATION shows the essence of the legendary Pelé and his appeal to people from all over the

world.

A short movie tells the compelling story of the promise made by a 9 year old boy to his father after the Brazilian team lost 1950 WC final to Uruguay in Rio de Janeiro.

• When Brazil lost the World Championship 1950 against Uruguay, it was the first time for Pelé to see his father cry. Listening to his father’s radio he witnessed the dramatic defeat.

MEMORABILIA

• In the forties the children played with balls made of socks. They dreamed of the day when they would have enough money to buy a real ball. The ball shown here is a donation by childhood friends in memory of that time.

• From the age of 7 to 8 Pelé worked as a shoeblack at the train station in the city of Baurú, where he spent his childhood. The money he earned he brought home to his mother Celeste.

• Pelé inherited much of his passion for football from his father Dondinho, who had been a professional player during the forties. Dondinho played with this ball in 1945. “I owe everything to my father”, Pelé once said.

• After his third World Cup victory in 1970 Pelé wore this football shirt until he left Seleção in 1971.

• From 1956 to 1973 Pelé played for the FC Santos and scored a grand total of 1,086 goals. This shirt is from 1963, when Santos won the Intercontinental Cup for the second time. In the same year Pelé had his first audience with the Pope in Vatican City.

• With this ball Pelé scored his 1,000th goal of his football career in November 1969 in the Maracanã Stadium. Pelé kissed the ball while the 75,000 fans in the stadium celebrated the goal.

• Wearing these shoes in the sixties, Pelé scored 431 goals for his club Santos on the Campeonato Paulista, the club championships of the state of São Paulo.

• Pelé wore these Puma football shoes in the seventies. With Pelé as regular player of the Seleção Brazil became World Champion for the third time.

• Pelé’s athlete ID cards: Santos FC (1973), FIFA (Mexico, 1970), FIFA (England, 1966), Brazilian Sports Confederation (CBD, 1957 to 1967), Santos FC (1970).

• In 1980 Pelé was named „Greatest Sportsman of the Century” by the readers of the French sports publication “L’Equipe”. He was honored with this trophy that was handed over to him in the following year in Paris.

• In 2000 Pelé was elected “Footballer of the Century” by FIFA. The trophy symbolises this title.

• Pelé was awarded the Silver Ball Trophy by the Brazilian football magazine Placar. Its readers voted him the best Brazilian footballer when Brazil won the World Cup for the third time in 1970.

• Replica of the Jules Rimet Cup that Brazil received after winning its third World Cup in Mexico in 1970. This replica was given to Pelé by the Mexican government.

• The trophy that Pelé was awarded by the American magazine “Sports Illustrated”. This honour was given to “athletes who changed the game”.

• The magazine draws attention to the fact that the number of football players in the USA quadrupled because of Pelé.

• This trophy was awarded to Pelé by Santos FC in 1993 on the 30th anniversary of the team’s second South American Cup and World Cup wins.

• The Golden Bear Trophy that Pelé was awarded in Berlin in 1972, for being a “World City favorite”.

• World Champion ribbon of the World Championship 1958 in Sweden. Here Pelé played for the first time for the Brazilian Seleção. Only 17 years of age he scored the goal against Wales and brought Brazil into the semifinals.

• Three World Cup medals Brazil won becoming World Champion in 1958, 1962 and 1970, as well as a medal of honour for Pelé’s Thousandth Goal, scored in 1969.

• Pennant of New York Cosmos for which Pelé played from 1975 to 1977, as well as a commemorative pennant for the celebration of the “Pelé sayonara (Farewell) game” in Japan 1977.

• In 1971 Pelé played his farewell match with the Seleção against Yugoslavia. The Yugoslavian team presented Pelé with crown and sceptre as a tribute to his career that consecrated him King of Football.

• In 1977 Pop Art genius Andy Warhol portrayed Pelé. Warhol, who predicted that in future everyone would be world famous for fifteen minutes, said that Pelé’s fame would last for fifteen centuries.
