BACKGROUND

articipatory Development Initiative (PDI) is a Pnational non-govermentai Organisation started by a group of windows as forum for mutual

support and empowerment for widows and orphans in Kenya.

It was registered in 2001 as a national non-governmental organisation. It operates in Nairobi and Nyanza province. It seeks to employer ,care and support widows and children orphaned and in difficult conditions of life.

PDI is Guided By 6 Broad Objectives:

1 .To reduce the phyisical and psychological suffering caused by HIV/AIDS through provision of appropriate psychosocial care that target the individual and family.

2. To provide widows with adequate opportunities to learn, share experiences and reduce their vulnerability to social, economic and sexual exploitation that expose them to HIV infection or re-infection.

3. To provide orphans, like any other children, with adequate opportunities to access basic needs such as food , shelter, medical care and education to nurture their holistic development within the community.

4. To economically empower widows and their families through integrated Income Generating Activities (IGA) and related skills.

5. To strengthen PDI’s institutional capacity to deliver and sustain prompt and efficient services to its clients, the widows and orphans in distress.

6. To network and collaborate with other stakeholders, including Government Agencies with similar objectives to enhance the welfare of widows and orphans in Difficult situation in Kenya.

Mission

DI exists to reduce the physical and Ppsychological suffering of widows and orphans infected and affected by

HIV/AIDS by improving their quality of life through economic empowerment and psychosocial support.

We aim at prolonging the lives of widows in order to give orphans better chances in life.

Vision

PDI envisages a society where widows' and orphans' rights are respected and appreciated.

Scope and Coverage

PDI basically supports widows, orphans and other vulnerable children to lead wholesome lives from hard conditions such as HIV/AIDS infection.

Currently, it supports over 400 widows and 200 children within our geographica

Grand mother’s inclusion

With the ever increasing effects of HIV/AIDS, the grand mothers have been incorporated in our activities after realizing that they shoulder most of the weight i.e Orphans Care.

Hence our activities are mainly :- - Education - Orphan Support - Referrals.- Income Generating Activities - Vocational Training amongst Others.
